Semifinal line-up was set up at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix on Friday, as Petra Kvitova, Naomi Osaka, Kiki Bertens and Anett Kontaveit won their quarterfinal matches.

The first player to make the final four was Petra Kvitova, seeded third, who rallied to beat seventh seed Anastasija Sevastova 2-6 6-2 6-3. What followed on Centre Court was an amazing battle between top seed Naomi Osaka and Donna Vekic, in which the world No.1 kept her composure and won 6-3 4-6 7-6(4) even though her opponent was serving for the match twice. Note that Osaka has just 200 points to defend this entire clay season, while with this semifinal she’ll leave Stuttgart with at least 185.

In the night session, sixth seed Kiki Bertens faced no break points in her 6-3 6-4 victory over fifth seed Angelique Kerber and eighth seed Anett Kontaveit finished Friday’s action late, coming back from a set and a break down before Victoria Azarenka retired because of a right shoulder injury after the first three games of the deciding set.
