Just like her sister Serena, Venus Williams kept her Australian Open outfit a secret until the moment she appeared on Margaret Court Arena for her first-round match against Romanian Michaela Buzarnescu.

As you know, Venus has her own EleVen clothing brand, but even the company’s PR couldn’t give me information about the American’s Melbourne outfit, saying that she likes to pick her clothes the night before or on the day of her match and they weren’t even sure which collection she would wear, the Morning Glory that she sported in Auckland earlier this month or a new collection.

Well, we got the answer on Day 2 of the Australian Open, as V debuted the Diva Dress from the Caracas collection. Regular readers of Women’s Tennis Blog are familiar with this look, as in mid-November I gave you a sneak peek at the EleVen clothes ready for 2019. Venus accessorized her dress with a pink arm-sleeve.

Coming back from a set and a break down, Venus squeezed past the 25th-seeded Buzarnescu 6-7(3) 7-6(3) 6-2, making her 81th main-draw appearance at a Grand Slam!

  1. I’m not always a fan of Venus’ kits but it is always different and pretty nice on her… 🙂 Glad to see her win anyway !

And… did Nike let Yastremska go ?!

  2. Virginie, I see Yastremska is wearing Yonex now. She’s apparently one of many players who’ve changed sponsors in 2019.

  3. I think Venus is the only player on the wta tour who has a big success as a fashion designer… Her dresses are unique she has her own touch her own crazy ideas and multiple diffrent types collections!! This one is really good sooo fashionable 🙂 well done Veeee

  4. Vee looks amazing on this dress. Probably her best since Wimbledon 2016(?).

I like that the inner lining of her dress seems like its made of the pattern.

I also loved her high pony!

  5. This definitely is one of Venus’ best dresses. I don’t remember anyone combining white background with printed colorblocks positioned at chest and waist.

  6. Don’t care for the outfit, but let’s talk about the amazing tennis Queen Venus is playing. Well done, Venus! Congrats on your victorious win yesterday. Tennis skills looking great! Queen Serena won her match against the “hyped by Mary Jo Fernandez” Genie Bouchard. Her insane comment about Genie playing a spectacular 1st set was ridiculous (if you saw the match, you’ll understand why; or just check out the score). That’s what she should’ve said about Serena’s play and the way she steamrolled Genie in straight sets. Thanks to Patrick McEnroe, everything that should’ve been said about the amazing Serena was said. Don’t be jealous, Mary Jo. Celebrate and acknowledge the living legend/Queen of tennis/GOAT Serena and her abundance of accomplishments. Please give Serena the credit and praise she obviously & rightfully deserves. The woman is simply amazing! And by the way, Cliff Drysdale: Venus is a 7-time Grand Slam winner, not 5, as well as 14 Doubles titles. Get it together, sir! All of you commentators need to start acknowledging both Venus & Serena’s doubles titles, gold medals, the whole 9 yards, please and thank you.
