During the rain-affected second-round action at the Western & Southern Open on Wednesday, seventh seed and defending champion Garbine Muguruza suffered a surprise defeat by Lesia Tsurenko, while world No.1 Simona Halep‘s match against Ajla Tomljanovic was halted by storm at 4-6 6-3 3-3 (at the time of my publishing of this gallery, Halep has finished the match, winning the third set 6-3).

In other second-round matches, third-seeded Sloane Stephens beat Tatjana Maria and set up a meeting with 15th seed Elise Mertens, the winner over qualifier Rebecca Patterson. Fourth seed Angelique Kerber claimed her 40th win of the season by rallying past Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, while second seed Caroline Wozniacki retired with a left knee injury in the second set against Kiki Bertens.

All this and more our Jimmie48 covered in photos in Cincinnati.
