Second-round action completed on Thursday at the Nature Valley Classic and while defending champion Petra Kvitova progressed past Daria Gavrilova 6-2 6-2, top seed Garbine Muguruza was upset by Barbora Strycova 6-2 6-4. Fifth seed Julia Goerges defeated Ashleigh Barty 7-6(6) 6-3 and Lesia Tsurenko eliminated sixth seed Daria Kasatkina 1-6 6-3 6-3.
