Caroline Wozniacki battled past Ashleigh Barty to reach the third round, Julia Goerges beat Lara Arruabarrena in three sets, while Caroline Garcia got past Petra Martic. In a match that ended after midnight, Karolina Pliskova made the third round for the first time by defeating Victoria Azarenka.
Birthday girl Daria Kasatkina was surprised with a tennis cake and she enjoyed some paddle tennis time in the morning.
