Madrid Open PHOTOS: First round kicks off, Kontaveit eliminates Venus

After a busy Friday at the Mutua Madrid Open, our Jimmie48 was in full gear during the action-packed Saturday at the Premier Mandatory tournament.

The day started with fourth seed Elina Svitolina‘s straight-set victory over Alize Cornet in the first round, followed by seventh seed Caroline Garcia‘s elimination of Dominika Cibulkova. Our photographer was lucky to have a place for himself, as all seats in the stadium were occupied for the clash between sixth seed Karolina Pliskova and Elena Vesnina, which the Czech won 6-4 6-2. Anett Kontaveit made the second round by upsetting eighth seed Venus Williams, seed No.11 Julia Goerges took out Timea Babos, seed No.14 Daria Kasatkina squeezed past Wang Qiang, while Lara Arruabarrena beat Marta Kostyuk.

When it comes to practice sessions, we have coverage of Maria Sharapova‘s, Caroline Wozniacki‘s and Victoria Azarenka‘s. As for the qualifying, we have photos of Aryna Sabalenka‘s progress into the main draw with a victory over Olga Danilovic.
