Caroline Wozniacki capped a wonderful season in which has won 60 matches, more than any other player, with a dominant showing at the 2017 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global concluded with the Dane’s first victory in eight tries over Venus Williams in the title match.

In her first two matches in Singapore, against Elina Svitolina and world No.1 Simona Halep, the sixth-seeded Wozniacki lost a total of just four games, then Caroline Garcia defeated her in three sets in the last round-robin match, while in the semifinal epic against Karolina Pliskova the Dane saved six set points to progress to the final in straight sets.

Wozniacki started off strong in her final against the fifth-seeded Williams, but the American legend broke back right away twice when her 27-year-old opponent managed to grab a break lead. However, in the tenth game Williams gave away her service game with some unforced errors and the set was Wozniacki’s in 41 minutes.

Returning everything and forcing her opponent to make mistakes, Wozniacki raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set, but the experienced Williams miraculously won four straight games, serving to Wozniacki’s body and going for her shots, scaring the Dane that the big title could be slipping away. Still, Wozniacki managed to win one more game for a 6-4 6-4 triumph and her first WTA Finals title.

Wozniacki’s spectacular 2017 season includes eight finals with two titles (Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo and now the WTA Finals in Singapore), a year-end No.3 ranking finish and tour-leading number of Top 10 wins (14).

Not only was Wozniacki’s tennis superior this week, her Singapore on-court fashion also raised the bar: her Adidas Stella McCartney New York TankAdidas Stella McCartney New York Skirt and red Adidas Stella Barricade BOOST 2017 shoes.

  1. Huge congrats to Caroline! Well deserved indeed. She is one of my favourite players. So is Venus – but she already has this one, as well as others ?.

  2. Claire, both V and Caro really deserved this final. I’m also glad Caro won. I thoroughly enjoyed watching her shine again this year.
