The China Open semifinal field was sealed with Caroline Garcia‘s epic 6-7(5) 7-5 7-6(6) victory over third seed Elina Svitolina in three hours and 21 minutes, ruining the Ukrainian’s chances of grabbing the No.1 ranking with the title in Beijing, while earlier second seed Simona Halep beat Daria Kasatkina in the first quarterfinal on Friday, twelfth seed Petra Kvitova dispatched compatriot Barbora Strycova, and ninth seed Jelena Ostapenko saw off Sorana Cirstea, all in straight sets.
