By reaching the Generali Ladies Linz final on Saturday, Dominika Cibulkova is now just one win away from qualifying for Singapore and in the title match the Slovak will face Viktorija Golubic, whose last two matches were cut short as her high-profile opponents quit due to injuries and illness.
Continuing her successful 2016 season, the second-seeded Cibulkova reached her sixth WTA final this year by defeating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-4 6-3 in the Linz semis. After Cibulkova earned an early break to go 2-0 up in the first set, neither player held serve until the end of the set. The fourth-seeded Suarez Navarro was the first to go up a break in the first set, but then she lost a string of games.
Swiss Viktorija Golubic for the second day in a row advanced without a completed match. Yesterday, top seed and world No.6 Garbine Muguruza twisted her ankle midway through the third set and had to quit the quarterfinal against Golubic, while today world No.7 Madison Keys withdrew from the tournament due to respiratory illness hours before the semifinal.
