Russian rising star Daria Kasatkina upset Italian veteran and seventh seed Roberta Vinci in the third round of the Rogers Cup in one and a half hours.

The world No.33 Kasatkina played very aggressively throughout the match, securing the first set 7-5, before leading 4-1 in the second and closing it 6-3. Vinci’s forehand proved to be disappointing compared to her usual standards, letting Kasatkina dictate her game and leaving few chances to Vinci.

The nineteen-year-old Kasatkina reached the quarterfinals, where she will face number two seed Angelique Kerber, who squeezed past Elina Svitolina 1-6 7-6(2) 6-4.
