The 2016 Aegon International in Eastbourne was off to a troublesome start on Monday as the British seaside town was hit with severe rain showers early into the day, forcing several cutbacks to the day’s order of play.

A total of five first-round matches completed on the British lawn, including the victories of Eugenie Bouchard, Monica Puig & Andrea Petkovic, who needed more than two and a half hours to get past China’s Saisai Zheng.

Monday proved to be a rather disappointing day for all the local favorites as all three British players in the draw were unable to win their matches or even decide a set in their favor. Tara Moore, Heather Watson & Noami Broady all lost in straight sets.

With the weather to improve as the week goes on, Tuesday in Eastbourne will see a packed day with action across six courts, since plenty of matches from Monday have been carried over as well. Women’s Tennis Blog will of course bring you all the action from the final Wimbledon lead-up tournament, so make sure to keep checking back!
