Photos: Temperatures soar in Melbourne

One day before the women’s qualifying action kicks off at the 2016 Australian Open, temperatures soared in Melbourne Park, reaching 44 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

While men’s qualifiers had to play under the extreme conditions, the women’s side of the draw was still busy practicing, including Maria Sharapova who completed an extensive practice session inside Margaret Court Arena.

    I actually love when it’s hot as hell during the AO. It’s just one of the things that make the AO special to me – players players dehydrating, collapsing, fainting…. just love it 😀
