While our photographer Jimmie48 is busy bringing us excellent live photos from the Brisbane International (even Maria Sharapova and the WTA are using his pics! ;)), all tennis clothing brands are focused on the fast-approaching Australian Open, where they traditionally launch new collections. Yesterday I received an email from a Fila representative and got exclusive information about their new Platinum collection, set to be first displayed at Melbourne by, most notably, Jelena Jankovic and Julia Goerges.

Jelena Jankovic - new Fila dress - 2015 collection

The 16th-ranked Jankovic will wear the Fila Platinum dress, in diva pink/white/charcoal hues, featuring a racerback silhouette with a no-sew insert at the front yoke, reflective piping at the center back and an inside bra with removable padded cups.

The world No.75 Julia Goerges will wear separates from the collection which includes four different silhouettes of tops (wide racerback tank, cami tank, halter tank and cap-sleeve top), matching the coordinating skorts.

Fila promotes Platinum as their most advanced, breakthrough collection, with technology as its focal point. The Platinum clothes feature INVISTA’s THERMOCOOL ™ fabric, designed to optimize the body’s natural thermal capabilities through smart fiber cross-sections: Duoregulation ™ adapts to the wearer’s needs. Offering energy and wellness, Duoregulation ™ is said to provide overall comfort, helping you to be warm when you feel cold and cool when you feel hot.

While we’re waiting for the Fila Platinum collection to hit the stores, let me remind you that this week in Brisbane JJ wore this lovely last year’s light green Fila Fall Collezione Dress, that is also available in black and white.

Most brands are yet to reveal their Australian Open 2015 designs. Besides Fila, we’ve seen only the new Adidas by Stella McCartney clothes and they have already been at retail for quite some time.

  1. Emman Damian, I agree about JJ’s dress. Regarding its look, it doesn’t seem very innovative or different, actually, it reminds me of some previous Fila’s collections. I much prefer the green dress from the fall collection that I showed here.

  2. I’m not so sure with JJ’s dress. I think it is too simple. For Julia, she is like Ana Ivanovic. She really looks good on anything she wears. I particularly like the color of her separates. Let see if this color will work in Melbourne.

  3. Emman Damian, right, their last year was the best ever, but in-between the memorable designs they also had these flat ones, so overall this new collection doesn’t mean that they have abandoned the experimental approach.

  4. Emman Damian, I’m also always for the risks. But I said that in-between the risks Fila also had some simple designs last year, the year which was “risky” overall. I’m not sure about brands consulting players. There have been some pretty disastrous looks and incompatible designs over the years haha (Petrova and Ellesse first come to mind! – https://womenstennisblog.com/2011/04/05/nadia-petrova-on-her-ellesse-outfits-oh-my-god-those-are-not-my-choices/). What is sure is that Masha is behind her own line and Venus is designing her stuff.

  5. I hope they take risks again just like what Lotto did last year. I must say, they did very well on that. Other sportswear manufacturers ask players about their inputs. I wonder if Fila does that.

  6. Emman Damian, Lotto has already released their black lace dress, a very risky design! I suppose you’ve seen it on my blog. I’ve already seen it on Ula Radwanska. I suppose Aga will wear it as well. I agree with you, my prediction is that brands will continue their established paths. Cibulkova again wore her navy dress this year! They much change the color for the love of god, even though I like navy.

  7. Point taken. For this year, do you have any fashion predictions? I think Lotto will maintain their good designs. Of course, nike and adidas (the two major brands) will keep the innovations coming. I hope Lacoste use a different color this year. Last year was predominantly navy which is too safe for me.

  8. Personally I don’t like JJ dress: too simple and that orange colour block looks like a whale’s tail!

Meanwhile, Nike has finally released Maria and Serena’s dresses!

How do you like them? I am not convinced of either of them, but we should probably wait to see them worn

  9. Mary, wow thanks for the updates! I’ve been waiting to see their new outfits for so long. My first impression of Masha’s outfit is “yikes”, although I think it may grow on me. Serena’s dress I actually like a lot, plus, it’s completely different from her designs in the past years. It does remind of the Paris dress you mentioned, but only the cut, which is in my opinion executed beautifully in her Paris dress (one of my favorite Masha’s off court dresses!), while here it is kind of clumsy. But I’m not giving it a final verdict, I may get to like this dress! Unlike Emman Damian, I actually like the choice of red, although not that much for the AO.

  10. Hi Marija, I agree. Color blocking may help enhance their designs.

Hi Mary, Maria’s dress is cute and youthful. The cut is different and innovative. My problem would be the choice of color. I think red is a bit bold. Not sure if Ana would sport the same color. I think I saw a different color of her dress for AO. For Serena, I’m not sure with the choice of color too. She looks like a walking tennis ball.
