The squad that helped team Germany to its first Fed Cup Final since 1992 received a very warm welcome by the media who was dying to hear from Andrea Petkovic, Angelique Kerber, Julia Görges & Anna-Lena Grönefeld who all were in a very bubbly and relaxed mood following their big win.

Other Fed Cup stars arrived in the Porsche Arena as well as Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic & Sorana Cirstea among others started preparing for their Porsche Tennis Grand Prix assault.

Cirstea raised quite a few eyebrows by practicing with none other than four-time Stuttgart (Filderstadt to be precise) champion Martina Hingis. Hingis, also working as Sabine Lisicki’s coach & doubles partner this week, had an extensive hit with the charming Romanian, watched not only by countless of fans but also by best friend Ana Ivanovic as both ladies enjoyed an on-court chat during a break.

The main draw was finally set with the completion of the four Qualifying finals as Annika Beck, Ajla Tomljanovic, Diana Marcinkevica as well as Gioia Barbieri.

It wasn’t all good news today though as the tournament suffered two big-name withdrawals as both Caroline Wozniacki and Dominika Cibulkova have withdrawn from the event due to injury. The Danish former #1 had to abort her morning practice session on the Center Court after a few minutes, sporting a heavily taped wrist.

As a result of both withdrawals, Mona Barthel & Johanna Konta joined the MD field as lucky losers, the latter lost her first-round match against Kaia Kanepi.

The withdrawals also resulted in quite a shuffle in the draw, setting up a very interesting round 1 clash as Ana Ivanovic will be facing Sabine Lisicki, a duel between two of the tournament’s most popular players.

The main draw will kick into higher gear tomorrow as reigning two-time Stuttgart champion Maria Sharapova will hit center court alongside a big field of other WTA stars. Keep checking back to Women’s Tennis Blog for all the exclusive live footage straight from Stuttgart!
