Over the weekend Tsvetana Pironkova hit a major career milestone by winning the Apia International Sydney for her first WTA title, so if you didn’t remember her face during her deep runs at Wimbledon, you sure recognize her now. But isn’t it interesting to see how the 26-year-old Bulgarian looked when she was making her first shots on the tennis courts? In the image you can see a six-year-old Pironkova and her first competitor card. I’m so glad I came across it on Pironkova’s Facebook page! Very cute!
Pironkova was introduced to tennis at the age of four. Both her parents were successful athletes – father a canoeing champion and mother a swimming champion. At the just launched 2014 Australian Open, Pironkova, now 50 places higher ranked than last week, advanced to the second round with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Silvia Soler-Espinosa.
