World No.1 Serena Williams dispatched Jelena Jankovic of Serbia in the final of the China Open in Beijing and won her 10th WTA title this year, the 56th in her career, and $860,000 in prize money. Now she is in the seventh place by the number of WTA titles, after the sixth Billie Jean King with 67.

The top-seeded Williams beat the eighth-seeded Jankovic 6-2 6-2 in one hour and 28 minutes. The American breezed through the first set 6-2 but in the second at 1-1 she grimaced in pain and the Serb took the chance for a 2-1 lead. It was the back problem Serena had talked about after her semifinal match. However, the fierce Williams quickly took control over her game and played her best, winning five straight games to close the match.

Both Jankovic and Williams had won the China Open once before, Williams in 2004 and Jankovic in 2008. By the way, Jankovic is the only player who has played all the 10 editions of the China Open from 2004 until today.

This week at the China Open, Serena paved her path to victory by eliminating 24th-ranked Elena Vesnina of Russia in the first round, 50th-ranked wildcard Francesca Schiavone of Italy in the second round, world No.18 Maria Kirilenko of Russia in the third round, sixth-seeded and eighth-ranked Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals and seed No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals.
