World No.41 Bojana Jovanovski won the $235,000 Tashkent Open tournament earlier this month and today she fought back from a set and a break down to defeat Zhang Shuai and clinch the Ningbo title. At both the tournaments Jovanovski was No.1 seed. Regarding Zhang, she’s also been enjoying a successful period in her career, having won her first WTA title last week in Guangzhou.

After losing a marathon first set in the tiebreak and finding herself 2-0 down in the second set, Jovanovski ran off with 12 of the next 15 games and celebrated with a 6-7(7) 6-4 6-1 victory at the $125,000 tournament officially called Yinzhou Bank Cup International Women’s Tennis Open.

The tournament may be small, but Serbia’s Jovanovski had established WTA names for opponents. Most notably in the first round Virginie Razzano, currently ranked 89th but formerly world No.16, and in the second round Shahar Peer, current world No.84 but formerly No.11. Jovanovski also defeated Anna Schmiedlova and Johanna Larson, before passing the last test against Zhang Shuai. (photo: © Neal Trousdale)
