The quarterfinals of the LA Women’s Tennis Championships are over and we have our semifinalists: Maria Sharapova will play Flavia Pennetta, and Samantha Stosur will face Sorana Cirstea.
Maria Sharapova claimed a straight-set win over Poland’s Urszula Radwanska, but it was far from easy – the Russian broke Radwanska only once in the first set, in the 18-point third game, and was 3-5 down in the second set. The final score was 6-4 7-5.
Seed No.10 Flavia Pennetta defeated second seed Vera Zvonareva 6-4 6-2, and thus earned her tenth Top 10 win. Pennetta is now on a nine-match winning streak, having won in Palermo prior to playing the LA tournament.
Sharapova and Penneta will meet in the semis. They have played each other two times so far, but their last encounter was over three years ago.
No.13 seed Samantha Stosur rallied from 6-4 3-1 down to beat No.14 seed Zheng Jie 4-6 6-3 6-4, the winner over world No.1 Dinara Safina in the third round. Stosur will play Soraca Cirstea in the semis, after the Romanian won a marathon with No.8 seed Agnieszka Radwanska 7-6(4) 1-6 7-5.

Is it just me or do Cirstea and Ivanovic look incredibly alike one another? 😛
well they have some similarities and they both have that eastern european look… thay are both beautiful brunettes!

Hey Marija, I haven’t been on for a while. Since I’m really really superstitious, I tried doing everything different at this tournament while Maria is playing. It almost changed everything, she reached the semifinals but lost to Pennetta today even though she was up 3-1 and serving. Her gas ran out again.
But beating Azarenka was a great win, I hope she’ll continue to improve and get back the old her soon. 🙂

Maria play and awesome match!!! the end of the second set was just fantastic.. at the beginning of the third set she was playing quite well but then she just fell apart but she did and amazing job in this tournament.. she just need to adjust her service!!! damn!! she is giving her oponents too many free point even too many free games!! and that’s just not right!!! But she really did a good job here in LA.. wish her the best for toronto!!! she has the game she just has to adjust it!!
woo for samantha! glad to see a aussie is going well. I dont know to much about flavia pennetta. I remember her at hopman cup. I dont think her serve is to great. But i remember alot of returns from her racquet were good. So sam might struggle with aces – serves are her best weapon.. i think
