Maria Sharapova training for Warsaw Open despite rain

As you know, Maria Sharapova is making her long-awaited comeback from shoulder injury at the May 18-23 Warsaw Open. It’s cute to see the Russian so determined that she’s even training in rain.

Sharapova will play her first competitive singles match since last August. She played doubles with Elena Vesnina at this year’s Indian Wells, but lost in the opening round already.

In the first round of the Warsaw Open, wild card Maria Sharapova will face Tathiana Garbin. Should she beat Garbin, in the second round she will probably play top seed Caroline Wozniacki, runner-up today at Madrid Open. (photos via Warsaw Open)

I don’t believe Masha fans should be too dissapointed with regards to her ranking; if her ‘comeback’ were successful, the rankings will justify that, especially that of her prior Champion class (recall Aussie Open last year where she eradicated Henin) and as she prominently noted, ‘I am not a finished product’. I believe it would be more pleasing to her fans, should she have utilised or applied for a protected ranking.

Really hoping for the Caroline v Maria matchup! That’s a great second round match. It will be interesting to see what draw Maria will recieve at the French too (assuming she plays). She will be unseeded, so that will make things tricky for the other players….

Maria had 6 match points in the second set but wasted them all, mostly to double faults. She could have won the match easily at 6-1, 6-3. But she was put to tie-break then lost the second set. In the third set, she was trailing at the beginning until she called Michael (which she obviously should have done a long time ago) and her game improved.

At first I thought she was going to lose. Thank God she called Michael. You should see her play in the first set and the last set, it’s definitely the old Maria.

She needs to work a lot on her serve. But still, I’m happy to see her back, her game at the beginning at the beginning of the match was awesome.

To Zuleika: I think the WTA did announce of Maria’s protected ranking of “4”, I read it on Maria Sharapova’s website as well. But I don’t know what happened..

P.S. She still looks hot. 😛

I was confident she would win in two sets, seeing how well she handled the match, but luckily, her tank wasn’t emptied despite being taken to the decider.
