Estonian No.1 and world No.16 Kaia Kanepi has not healed from her Achilles injury and has thus withdrawn from the 2012 London Olympics. Unbelievable! Before the 2004 Athens Olympics, Kanepi broke her little finger when she fell while running and had an appendix surgery just a month before the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. However, she did compete at both events, while this year she's totally out.

Remember the Olympics-dedicated Kanepi interview we published last month, in which she expressed how hopeful she was for the upcoming Games, especially given her successful 2012 with Brisbane and Estoril titles and French Open quarterfinals? Everything is shattered now. Here's Kanepi's statement for her official website:

It is very sad that I cannot participate in the Olympics. I do not know if I will ever get another chance to participate in the Olympic Games. At the moment all I want is my legs to be ok and that I could play tennis without feeling any pain.

The 27-year-old Estonian first started feeling the injury in spring in Estoril and after the memorable French Open she took a break to heal, but the most recent ultrasound examination revealed that the heel problem is still there. (photo: Not enough megapixels)

Agnieszka and Urszula Radwanska have the most entertaining childhood photos among tennis players! The sisters were so cute and hilarious. All the photos, and there are almost 100 of them in the gallery on the Radwanska team website, exude the energy of fun.

From wearing the oversized clothes to putting their tiny feet in the Wilson ball packaging, the Polish sisters never ran out of ideas for having a good time.

The wedding bug has hit the WTA. Our newly-launched WTA Players and their Boyfriends/Husbands series is getting more updates than expected. Karolina Sprem wasn't the only women's tennis player saying "yes" over the weekend. On Saturday, July 14, Spain's 29-year-old Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez married her boyfriend Juan Domingo. Today is the first wedding anniversary of Elena Dementieva and her husband Maxim Afinogenov, the perfect occasion to enrich our brand new series entitled WTA Players and their Boyfriends/Husbands, whose ultimate goal is to get together in one place all the information about women's tennis players and their love partners.

On July 16, 2011, the gracious retired tennis star married her long-time boyfriend, Russian professional ice-hockey player, in a Moscow ceremony attended by numerous tennis and hockey players. We first learned about the wedding only a few days before it took place, thanks to Alla Kudryavtseva's tweet. Subsequently, Alla also made sure to show us many photos from the wedding on her Twitter account.
