Victoria Azarenka reveals breakup with Sergei Bubka

The word is out on Twitter that Victoria Azarenka told the media in Brazil that she had broken up with her long-time boyfriend Sergei Bubka Jr.

In her Australian Open victory speech early this year, expressing praise to the people that supported her, Azarenka also thanked her boyfriend Sergei, son of a famous pole vaulter, and that is when we introduced you to Sergei and wrote more about their relationship. Less than a year later, and they are supposedly no longer an item.

We still don't know whether they had broken up even before Sergei fell from a third-floor apartment a month and a half ago in Paris, but Azarenka did visit him in hospital and in the interview for Brazilian media she said that his health is good now. Also, she said that she continues to communicate with him, but right now she's single. I'm sure we'll get more on this story in the coming days.

Fashion overview: Agnieszka Rawanska working Lotto in her Top 5 debut season

This has been a breakthrough year for Agnieszka Radwanska, with her Top 5 debut, three WTA titles (Dubai, Miami, Brussels) and her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, therefore, this is the perfect time to introduce the Pole in our retrospections of WTA players' yearly outfits. Actually, only since September 2011 Radwanska has had an official clothing sponsor – Lotto - even though she's been in the top of the game for years.

The Italian brand has never been on the innovative and versatile side. More or less, all the outfits looked the same, and often were the same, just in different color.

Radwanska, who had even reached No.2 ranking in July, wore exclusively dresses throughout the season and most of them were in one color only. A bit of versatility was introduced in the lead-up to the French Open, with contrasting stripes on the chest. Read more »

Sharapova and Ivanovic in Milan: tennis, Armani, shopping, tricky interviews

On December 1st, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic teamed up for a doubles match for the first time at an exhibition in Milan. Their opponents were experienced Italian partners Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, who won two Grand Slam doubles titles in 2012, on top of six WTA doubles titles. The newbie doubles team lost, but as individuals, in singles, they were victorious. Tennis was not the only highlight of the Milan story, though.

There was this hilarious interview with Ivanovic and Sharapova. They were asked which thing they would like to have that the other one has, and Sharapova said she would love Serbian fans, as they are more enthusiastic than the Russians. The best, of course, was saved for the last, when the interviewer asked them what they think which one would marry first and Ivanovic responded that Sharapova was closer! Hahaha. Sharapova laughed it out, but slowly started packing her stuff, closing the interview. Read more »

Retrospection of Dominika Cibulkova's 2012 Lacoste outfits

It's Lacoste time! So far in our retrospections of the WTA player outfits we've covered Nike on Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, EleVen on Venus Williams, Fila on Kim Clijsters, Adidas by Stella McCartney on Caroline Wozniacki and now let's see what Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova wore on the tennis courts throughout 2012 as the most prominent representative of Lacoste.

In past two years, the most famous face of Lacoste was Samantha Stosur, but in the beginning of 2012 she switched to Asics.

REMINDER of how Samantha Stosur worked Lacoste:

Lacoste tennis clothes always have clean lines and not more than two or three colors. Collars are very common in their designs. If you are a fan of classic style, than Lacoste is perfect for you.

The creator of the Lacoste brand was René Lacoste, a French tennis player nicknamed "the Crocodile" for his tenacity on the court. The above photo from 1926 is the first known appearance of René with the crocodile logo embroidered on his blazer. Read more »

Serena Williams receives well-deserved Player of the Year award

Serena Williams has officially been named the Player of the Year by the WTA Tour. Like she had competition? There is absolutely no other woman that is more worthy of the honor – seven titles, including two Grand Slams (Wimbledon and US Open), Olympic gold and the WTA Championships, and a mind-blowing 48-2 win-loss record from the beginning of the claycourt season until the end of the year. To make things even more impressive, Serena won Wimbledon doubles title and Olympic gold medal with sister Venus in 2012 (notice, at the tournaments she was also victorious in singles).

Of course that's not all! Serena finished the year with a 4-0 record against No.1s and 15-0 against the Top 5! Overall, her 2012 win-loss record is 58-4. The fact that she ended the year ranked No.3 doesn't spoil the impression that she was a tornado on the courts. The manner in which she stormed to the titles is unforgettable.

This is the fourth time Serena has won the award. Previously she won it in 2002, 2008 and 2009. In 2002 she clinched eight titles and was undefeated at Grand Slams (21-0), undefeated by Top 5 players (11-0) and undefeated by No.1s (3-0). (photo courtesy of Fiji Water)
