Azarenka through, Radwanska beaten by Kirilenko

Despite complaining that her ankle has been bothering her for a while, top seed Victoria Azarenka, unbeaten in 17 matches this season, remained on course in her title defense at the BNP Paribas Open by cruising into the last eight with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Urszula Radwanska, while Urszula's more successful sister Agnieszka Radwanska was the only upset of the day, as the third seed fell to seed No.13 Maria Kirilenko. After quickly losing the first set, Agnieszka fought back to win the second and go 3-1 up in the third, before Kirilenko won four straight games for a 5-3 lead and a 6-1 4-6 7-5 victory after a small slump.

Maria Sharapova won a close opening set against Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino, before storming through the second in just 22 minutes for a 7-5 6-0 victory, Angelique Kerber defeated Garbine Muguruza 6-4 7-5, Petra Kvitova advanced with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over fellow Czech Klara Zakopalova, Sara Errani took out Marion Bartoli 6-3 6-2, Samantha Stosur was better than Mona Barthel 4-6 6-2 6-3 and Caroline Wozniacki beat Nadia Petrova 7-6(3) 6-3 in the fourth round.

Denise Cronwall releases 2013 tennis clothes

A month ago I presented you the lovely brand of Denise Cronwall and told you about the items that were on sale then. Now I'd like to inform you that the 2013 tennis collection is out and you can see all the available clothes in the 2013 lookbook!

As you know, Denise sent me numerous beautiful clothing items for review. Last time I showed you styles from 2011 and 2012 and now it's my pleasure to introduce you to the new designs. First I'd like to talk about the clothes that I received from the new collection.

BLACK VINTAGE CAP SLEEVE TOP AND SKIRT

I admire the designs of Denise Cronwall for their uniqueness and this ensemble perfectly represents the novelty she brings to the tennis fashion. Made from soft and comfortable fabric, the stylish cap sleeve top with mesh ruffle detail at shoulders has a built-in bra, while the matching skirt has mesh piping detail and lined lace ruffles. In the 2013 lookbook you will see that there is also a tennis tank of similar style, as well as a wonderful dress called "Mona in Australia" (the name is honoring Mona Barthel who is the WTA representative of the brand). The top costs $85, just like the skirt, while the dress retails at $136. Read more »

Fourth round set at the BNP Paribas Open

Top seed Victoria Azarenka, who crushed Maria Sharapova in last year’s Indian Wells final, couldn’t find her rhythm in the beginning of her third-round meeting with Kirsten Flipkens, but in the end came out strong by taking all of her opponent’s serves in the third set to win 3-6 6-3 6-0. Her rival in the fourth round will be Urszula Radwanska, who earlier defeated Jamie Hampton 6-0 7-6(4).

Fourth seed Angelique Kerber beat seed No.30 Yanina Wickmayer 6-1 7-6(4), but only after recovering from 1-4 down in the second set, thanks to her coach’s reminder to focus on their pre-match strategy, by winning five of the next seven games and then the tiebreak. Garbine Muguruza, who swept past Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4 6-0, will be Kerber’s fourth-round opponent. Read more »

After 22 years with one coach (her father), Marion Bartoli hires Jana Novotna

Twenty-eight-year-old Marion Bartoli made a tough decision to break free from her father Walter's 22-year-long tennis guidance, and despite talks that Amelie Mauresmo would be her new coach, Jana Novotna was hired ahead of Indian Wells and will work with the world No.11 full time. After reaching the Indian Wells quarterfinals with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova, Bartoli ran to Novotna for a hug. Bartoli's next opponent is sixth seed Sara Errani.

Bartoli met Novotna, who happens to share her birthday of October 2nd, in Doha and is happy to be coached by a woman, believing that a woman champion can understand her best. The 44-year-old Novotna won one Grand Slam in singles in her career and it was at Wimbledon, where Bartoli played her sole Grand Slam final in 2007. (source: Tennis.com, photo via MungoNGus)

Fila gets innovative with Heritage Carwash dress for Jelena Jankovic

Jelena Jankovic debuted a so called Fila Heritage Carwash dress this week at Indian Wells, where she lost to Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round, despite bageling the Russian in the first set. Final score was 0-6 6-2 7-5.

The highlight of the dress is what looks like a pleated bottom but is actually a bunch of straps that sway and bounce as you play. Jelena wore a blue version of the dress and over it a new Heritage sweater. The dress also comes in white and costs $90, while the sweater is $80.

Kuznetsova, who switched from wearing Fila to Qiaodan in the beginning of this year, had a slight wardrobe issue during the encounter and had to take off her tight leggings in order to be able to move more freely. (source: Tennis Identity)
