Used Rolex Daytona and Rolex President at Bobs Watches – sponsored article

Paul Alteri from Bob’s Watches, an online exchange for used Rolex watches, would like to introduce you to his two favorite Rolex models at the moment: the Rolex Daytona and the Rolex President.

In today’s world, the Rolex watch is a commodity that continues to grow in value on a variety of levels. The cost of new Rolex watches continues to rise by 5 to 7 percent each year, which in-turn increases the value of pre-owned Rolex watches. Two such models that have caught the eye of Rolex collectors around the world are the Rolex Daytona "Paul Newman" and Rolex President. They are without a doubt two of the hottest models on the pre-owned Rolex market for women, with their classic yet innovative styling. Because of their versatility and unforgettable designs, tennis players and fans have had a love-affair with both Rolex watches both on and off the court. Many women can now be seen wearing men’s watches like the Men’s Rolex Daytona in Rose gold as worn by tennis great Ana Ivanovic.

Rolex Daytona

It was around 1937 that the Rolex Company introduced its chronograph models. Unlike any other watch on the market, the chronograph featured Valjoux movement and a time-measuring function that is very similar to that of a stopwatch. The second hand could be started and stopped via the push of a button. In 1961, Rolex released the Rolex Daytona 6241, which was named after Daytona Beach, Florida due to the city’s tie to many of the world’s greatest racecar drivers.

At that time, the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona caught the attention of a select few Rolex watch enthusiasts. Early versions of the watch featured exotic dials, such as a black dial with white registers or create with black registers. Also, the innovative Rolex featured all-new square markers within the registers. Because demand was quite limited, the Rolex Company limited the number of watches produced. This has fueled the current value of pre-owned Rolex Cosmograph Daytona timepieces in today’s world.

The "Paul Newman" Rolex was coined after the actor’s wife presented him with the watch in 1972. He then wore his Rolex Daytona 6263 with pride as he began his professional racing career. His first Daytona Rolex featured a handsome black dial with white registers. When the 80s and 90s rolled around, Newman sported a Rolex Daytona 6239 with an exotic cream dial, black registers, and a rugged black leather strap. Racing enthusiasts paid attention and liked what they saw. Read more »

Polona Hercog defends Sony Swedish Open title

Polona Hercog of Slovenia lost the first seven games of the Sony Swedish Open final against world No.83 Mathilde Johansson, but revived, took the second set and survived her opponent's surge from 1-5 to 5-all in the third to eventually win 0-6 6-4 7-5, thus defending her Bastad title, where she had won her first and by today only WTA title.

The success is reviving Hercog's 2012 season, in which she hadn't won a match in two and a half months. Many first-round losses and withdrawals due to a back injury caused Hercog's slump in the rankings by 50 spots, to her current No.86.

En route to the title, before Johansson in the final, Hercog defeated Alexandra Panova in the first round, seed No.2 Julia Goerges in the second, Tsvetana Pironkova in the quarters and seed No.7 Mona Barthel in the semis.

The claycourt Bastad title has brought Hercog $37,000. (source: WTA Tour, photo via Swedish Open)
