Magdalena Rybarikova wins third WTA title at the Citi Open

While everyone was busy with the Olympics, unseeded Magdalena Rybarikova was racing to the Citi Open title in the other part of the world, beating Top 3 seeds, including seed No.1 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the final. Impressively, Rybarikova didn’t lose a set whole week and in the title match she was the most decisive, winning 20 of 21 points on first serve to beat Pavlyuchenkova 6-1 6-1.

Before Pavlyuchenkova, Rybarikova eliminated third seed Sloane Stephens in the semis, Jana Cepelova in the quarterfinals, Eleni Daniilidou in the second round, and second seed Chanelle Scheepers in the first round.

The Citi Open title is the Slovak’s third WTA title. Her previous two came at Birmingham 2009 and Memphis 2011. The 280 points lifted Rybarikova from No.102 to No.67 in the rankings. (photo and info via WTA Tour)
