Last week at the China Open Flavia Pennetta defeated singles and doubles No.1s on the same day – Caroline Wozniacki and Liezel Huber – thus joining the legendary Steffi Graf as the only other player in history to achieve the feat.

In the Friday's Beijing singles quarterfinals, Pennetta upset top-ranked Wozniacki, and then, together with Gisela Dulko, beat the doubles team of Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond in the semifinals.

Graf defeated the No.1-ranked player in singles and doubles by winning over Martina Navratilova in Berlin, in 1986, when Navratilova was on top of both the singles and doubles rankings.

World No.12 Agnieszka Radwanska defeated Andrea Petkovic 7-5 0-6 6-4 in the final of the $4,500,000 China Open and extended her perfect record against the German to 5-0. It's Radwanska's second big title in two weeks, after last week's Tokyo event with the prize money of $2,050,000. And that's not all, during the US Open series, Radwanska won the Carlsbad tournament and played the semifinals of Toronto.

There were 15 service breaks in the match of 28 games. After winning the first set that lasted more than half of the match, Radwanska won only nine points in the second set and was bageled. The Pole came back in the decider, opening it with a break and later she was the one to have the decisive break for a 5-4 lead before serving out the victory. It should be pointed out, though, that Petkovic won more points in the match, 101 to Radwanska's 100.

To win her seventh career title and third this season, the 22-year-old Radwanska defeated Zheng Jie, Sofia Arvidsson, Ana Ivanovic, Flavia Pennetta, and in the end Andrea Petkovic, who was playing the greatest final of her career. Radwanska won an astonishing $775,500 and 1000 ranking points in Beijing, which will take her back to Top 10.

Andrea Petkovic and Agnieszka Radwanska will face each other in the final of the China Open and it's not only a big moment in their careers because it's a Premier-level tournament, the winner of the match will return to No.10 in the rankings. Also, they are both contenders for the three remaining berths in the WTA championships draw in Istanbul.

The ninth-seeded Petkovic quickly defeated Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-0 and reached her biggest career final, but she far from underestimated her qualifier opponent, who had upset fourth seed Li Na in the first round.

"My opponent had a totally different style than all the other girls. I don't think I had a match like this the whole season," Petkovic said after taking all seven of Niculescu's service games. "So I prepared differently. I put my two coaches on the other side of the court and made them play slice all the time. So I think I was quite prepared for what was waiting for me here today."

The 11th-seeded Radwanska advanced with a 6-2 6-4 win over Flavia Pennetta, who had eliminated world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki in the quarterfinals. Radwanska was cruising until 6-2 3-1, but Pennetta levelled in the second set 3-3, and both held their serve since, until the last game when Radwanska broke Pennetta to take the match 6-2 6-4.

Except for the week of February 13, 2011, when Kim Clijsters interrupted her reign, Caroline Wozniacki has occupied the top spot of the WTA rankings for a year now and during the China Open the Tour presented the Dane with a cake to celebrate the anniversary.

On October 11, 2010, Wozniacki overtook the No.1 position from Serena Williams and spent 18 successive weeks there, and after Kim Clijsters' brief interruption, Wozniacki has been on the top for her 33rd straight week. Overall, it's her 51st week which makes her the ninth in the history of No.1 ranking occupants.

In the 6-2 6-1 win over Zvonareva, Ivanovic hit 29 winners to Zvonareva's four.

In the first round Ivanovic blew away Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-1 6-1, then powered past Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2 6-3, and now she's in the the quarterfinals where she will face either Sofia Arvidsson, who upset Wimledon champion Petra Kvitova, or Agnieszka Radwanska, who won the Tokyo Premier tournament last week. The unseeded Kirilenko advanced to the third round with a 7-5 1-6 7-5 victory over Stosur, after recollecting herself from a second set slump and a loss of six straight games. Next for Kirilenko is Tamira Paszek, who upset seed No.10 Jelena Jankovic in the first round.

Not even one 2011 Grand Slam champion is left in the China Open draw, even though it's still only the beginning of the tournament. The world No.5 Li followed her US Open first round exit with a defeat in her first match at the Beijing Premier-level tournament. Against qualifier Monica Niculescu of Romania, Li was bageled in the second set and in the first set won four games, only after coming back from a 5-1 deficit.

Right now I've just lost all confidence. On the court I don't know what I can do. I felt even winning one point was tough for me. My coach came out and told me exactly what was right, but I couldn't do it.

Ana Ivanovic had to part ways with Heinz Gunthardt because his family and other obligations prevented him from being 100% dedicated to Ivanovic, while she needs a full-time coach – someone to accompany her at all tournaments and training periods.

Partnership with Gunthardt, which started in February 2010, brought improvements to Ivanovic's game. Their cooperation ended after the China Open.

Never before had Caroline Wozniacki won a match at either the Tokyo or Beijing tournament, but this year the Dane won both in back-to-back weeks, earning the No.1 ranking on the way.

The final of the China Open in Beijing was postponed to Monday due to rain and top-seeded Wozniacki continued to consolidate her new top ranking by defeating the new No.3 and US Open and Wimbledon finalist Vera Zvonareva 6-3 3-6 6-3. One break in the beginning of the deciding set gave Wozniacki a 2-0 lead and she held her serve and didn’t even give Zvonareva break opportunities until the winner’s trophy was hers. The China Open title earned Wozniacki 1000 points, as well as $775,500, which means she’s earned more than a million in prize money in two weeks.

The 20-year-old Wozniacki doesn’t seem afraid of success: "Everything is working for me at the moment. I've got to believe I can beat anyone. I feel in great shape and now I'm really looking forward to Doha."

Serena Williams' expected comeback at the Generali Ladies Linz is not to be, as she suffered "a physical problem" which appeared in her last training session for the tournament. The American decided to undergo some more medical tests and later withdrew from the $220,000 Austrian event. Will the Munich restaurant foot injury keep Serena away from the Sony Ericsson Championships as well?

Caroline Wozniacki and Vera Zvonareva are also not in action, but due to rain in Beijing which has postponed matches until Monday. Wozniacki and Zvonareva, top two seeds at the China Open, are playing the finals as the Dane overcame Shahar Peer in the semis 7-5 6-2, and Zvonareva beat home favorite Li Na 6-3 6-3.
