Svetlana Kuznetsova loses in US Open third round

Svetlana KuznetsovaThe 2004 champion and last year’s finalist Svetlana Kuznetsova lost 6-3 6-7 6-3 in the third round of the US Open to Katarina Srebotnik of Slovenia.

Third-seeded Kuznetsova was erratic and made 36 unforced errors, while Srebotnik played consistently on every front and served 13 aces. Kuznetsova said Srebotnik had played an "unbelievable" game.

No.28 seed Srebotnik will play in the fourth round of the US Open for the first time. Her best results at Grand Slams were reaching the fourth round of Roland Garros in 2002 and in 2008.

Svetlana Kuznetsova stunned by Agnieszka Radwanska in Wimbledon fourth round

Svetlana Kuznetsova at Wimbledon 2008Fourth-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova followed Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic out of Wimbledon. For the first time in history none of the top four women's seeds have reached the quarterfinals at the All England Club.

Kuznetsova was defeated in the fourth round by world No.11 Agnieszka Radwanska. The 19-year-old Pole, who won the Eastbourne title before arriving at Wimbledon, broke the Russian at 5-3 and 5-5 in the decider before serving out for a 6-4 1-6 7-5 triumph.

In the quarterfinals Radwanska will play sixth seed Serena Williams.

Svetlana Kuznetsova upset by Caroline Wozniacki at Eastbourne International Women's Open

Svetlana Kuznetsova at Eastbourne International WomenTop seed Svetlana Kuznetsova was defeated in the second round of the Eastbourne International Women's Open by Danish teenager Caroline Wozniacki. Final score: 6-2 6-2.

It was Kuznetsova’s first and last match on grass prior to Wimbledon.

"At least I've played some and I have a few days to practice," said the Russian. "I'm very disappointed because I hoped to play a few more matches, but this is tennis and it can happen." Read more »
