Williams sisters disappointed to meet in the US Open quarterfinals

Venus and Serena WilliamsSerena Williams beat Severine Bremond 6-2 6-2 in the fourth round of the US Open and set up a quarterfinal clash with sister Venus. Although happy to advance, the sisters are disappointed that they need to face each other so early into the tournament.

"It sucks," said Serena.

"It sucks that it can't be the final. At least the semis. It's so soon. It's just disappointing to be so soon."

Serena and Venus Williams dominated the US Open for four years – Serena won the title in 1999 and 2002 and her older sister in 2000 and 2001. They are now the only Grand Slam champions left in the draw, plus, they haven’t dropped a set yet in the tournament. (source: Reuters, photo via news.com.au)

Serena Williams’ Nike dress for 2008 US Open

World number three Serena Williams will be wearing this dark red Nike dress at the US Open, the Grand Slam she won two times, in 1999 and 2002.

The outfit called Serena Day Dress looks nice, but is too uninventive for a player on a way to Grand Slam number nine. However, talking about too ordinary dresses, Ana Ivanovic is the leader.

Serena Williams will start her US Open campaign with a first-round match against world number 46 Kateryna Bondarenko of Ukraine. (via Down the Line)

Serena Williams reveals a tattoo on her neck

Serena Williams reveals a tattoo on her neck

It's the first time I see Serena Williams' tattoo on the nape of her neck. Is it a heart (as fellow blogger Rich thinks, the former number one might be revealing secret love to the world) or possibly some symbol? You see how the lines on the top of the heart are crossed, that doesn't seem to be just a regular heart.

Additional info: At the Olympic Tennis Event fourth-seeded Serena was knocked out by Russian Elena Dementieva in the quarterfinals. Williams' game was sloppy in the previous round against Alize Cornet, and she didn't manage to raise her game enough to fight off Dementieva, despite powering through the opening set. Losing to the Russian 3-6 6-4 6-3 chances of an all-Williams final at the Olympics have been ruined.
