Nicole Vaidisova dumped out of Roland Garros in the first round

Nicole Vaidisova dumped out of Roland Garros in the first roundNicole Vaidisova became the first seed to fall at the 2008 French Open when fellow Czech Iveta Benesova defeated her 7-6 6-1 in the opening round.

"It's always hard to play your best friend. I have to give her credit, she played a great match," said 15th-seeded Vaidisova, who finally lost the match by producing a double fault on match point.

Two years ago Vaidisova was semifinalist at Roland Garros, but today's defeat is just a continuation of her bad results. It is her sixth successive defeat dating back to March, plus, she has won only one match on tour since reaching the Australian Open fourth round in January.

World No.70 Benesova will be aiming to progress beyond the second round for the first time in seven attempts when she faces either Russia's Anastasia Rodionova or Peng Shuai of China next. (source: Reuters, photo: Getty Images)

Nicole Vaidisova apologizes for defeating Alicia Molik at Australian Open

Nicole VaidisovaAt the third day of the Australian Open, No.12 seed Nicole Vaidisova of Czech Republic defeated Australian Alicia Molik in straight sets 6-2 6-3 , and later apologized for beating the local favorite.

Vaidisova's domination in this second round match raised questions about Molik’s ability to fight back to a career-high world ranking of eight. After the one-sided encounter, the 18-year-old Vaidisova apologized to the crowd for 'ruining' their day by beating their home player.

With the victory the world No.12 booked a meeting with Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama.

BTW: Finally, Nicole Vaidisova said something about her supposed engagement to fellow Czech Radek Stepanek. They are dating, but there is "no wedding, no engagement, no nothing." Why did it take her so long to announce the truth?

Is this Nicole Vaidisova’s engagement ring?

Is this Nicole Vaidisova’s engagement ring?

Nicole Vaidisova and Radek Stepanek allegedly applied for a marriage license on December 10, but none of them has commented on that yet. Nicole Vaidisova, Radek Stepanek to marry?

Nicole VaidisovaRadek Stepanek

What? I’m speechless! This is the most unexpected news! Nicole Vaidisova, who celebrated her 18th birthday in April, to marry 29-year-old ATP tennis pro Radek Stepanek, Martina Hingis’ ex-fiancé? Haha, when I first read the heading of the news I thought that Vaidisova is about to marry someone, and Stepanek is about to marry someone (that’s how unbelievable their marriage is to me!).

According to the Bradenton Herald, the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court has said that the pair applied for a marriage license on December 10.

The Herald also states that Vaidisova’s agent at IMG Academies has not been available to comment.

Remember that Stepanek and Hingis broke off their engagement only a few months ago, shortly before the US Open? And Stepanek is supposedly already planning to marry? Hm, maybe it’s a short period of time for me, but it might have been long enough for Radek to find a new bride. (via On the Baseline, photos via Nicole Vaidisova On-Line, BBC)
