Maria Sharapova with Sony Ericsson Z555i PC wallpaper

Now you can watch Russian tennis beauty Maria Sharapova all day long, both on your PC desktop and on your mobile phone.

On Sony Ericsson's website you can choose between seven PC wallpapers, in which you can see Maria Sharapova talking on her Z555i. Also, if you already have that mobile phone, you can download twelve wallpapers specifically tailored for the phone (I've heard the wallpapers can be used on many other mobile phones as well).

The 21-year-old Sharapova has a four-year sponsorship agreement with Sony Ericsson.

BTW: As Justine Henin has retired, Maria Sharapova will take over her No.1 singles ranking next Monday.

Maria Sharapova and WTA reach compromise over photo shoot

Maria SharapovaMaria Sharapova had vented her anger at the WTA Tour over a publicity photo shoot she claimed she was being forced into on the eve of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, one of the most important tournaments of the season. Sharapova’s brave actions, or more precisely her outspokenness, proved to be fruitful and on Monday the compromise between her and the WTA was reached. The photo shoot in question was significantly shortened – from 5 hours to just 90 minutes.

Earlier this month Sharapova launched her protest on her website, and asked for fans’ opinions. The Russian said she was threatened to be fined for not wanting to attend to photo shoot, and her reason for not wanting to do so was that she had to focus on tennis as the tournament in Rome is a big tournament.

Here's what the 21-year-old Sharapova said after the agreement with the WTA: "The compromise was still pretty difficult since it's before a very big event. (But) the time reduction definitely makes it a lot easier than going into a four or five-hour shoot, without (the time for) hair and make-up, which adds another hour." (via Down the Line)

Maria Sharapova gives behind the scenes reports about life on WTA Tour at her website

Maria SharapovaA few days ago Maria Sharapova attacked the WTA saying they are "forcing" her to do a publicity shoot in Rome. Her fury hasn’t ended since, and she will continue to talk about the problem at her website and give her fans an inside look at the life of a women’s tennis player.

I am sure many of you can tell that I am just a little frustrated with a couple of tour executives who don't ever listen to the players and want to do their own thing. For a sport that has so much potential to grow and get bigger, you would think that the players voice would be important but unfortunately that's not the case. They just do whatever they want and tell us what to do and how to do it. And on top of that walk around like they're the stars.

I have tried to work with them, I have attended numerous amounts of meetings throughout the years, but they just do what they want and threaten to fine me. So since they will not listen to me, I am going to start giving my fans a behind the scenes look at life on tour…let the fun begin!

I love Maria more and more.

Haha, Maria also admitted thinking about faking a reason in order to avoid the fine for pulling out of the Qatar Telecom German Open:

I got a really bad viral infection with a big fever and that I have to get on antibiotics…how original! I know I'm always against those things, but I kind of had no other choice because I haven't been that sick in a while. Quite ironic, as a few days before that I was trying to come up with some "excuse" for pulling out of Berlin… (via Down the Line)

Maria Sharapova, Daniela Hantuchova withdraw from Qatar Telecom German Open

Maria Sharapova, Daniela HantuchovaMaria Sharapova and Daniela Hantuchova have pulled out of the next week’s Qatar Telecom German Open. Sharapova’s reason for withdrawal is an unspecified injury, while Hantuchova has a stress fracture in her right foot.

Even though the two Top 10 players have pulled out, the Qatar Telecom German Open is still expected to welcome seven members of the Top 10, including No.1 Justine Henin and No.2 Ana Ivanovic. (source: On the Baseline, photo via Down the Line)

Maria Sharapova to visit Chernobyl this summer as UN Goodwill Ambassador

Maria SharapovaMaria Sharapova, Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Development Program, will visit Chernobyl this summer in order to draw attention to problems that regions hit by the nuclear disaster still face.

Sharapova was born in Siberia a year after her parents were forced to leave the city of Gomel in Belarus, which was one of the areas most affected by radiation from the explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in neighboring Ukraine.

"A lot of families were moving, but not a lot of them could because they didn't really know where to go," said the three-times Grand Slam champion, who has never been to Chernobyl. "My mom's dad happened to be working in Siberia, so that's why we had a sense of direction."

Shortly after taking on her Chernobyl role last year in February, Sharapova donated $100,000 to youth projects in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, former Soviet republics where the after-effects of the disaster are still felt. (via RIA Novosti, photo via Maria Sharapova's official site)
