Jelena Jankovic falls to Tamarine Tanasugarn in the fourth round of WimbledonSecond seed Jelena Jankovic didn’t resist the curse of favorites for long as she was beaten at Wimbledon, just like top and third seed Ana Ivanovic and Maria Sharapova. World No.3 Jankovic lost to Thailand’s Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-3 6-2 it the fourth round.

Jankovic’s previous match was also a close affair, but today she couldn’t come back after losing the first set. Jankovic was invariably troubled by a knee injury she sustained in the match against Caroline Wozniacki.

Jankovic has never surpassed the fourth round at Wimbledon. With the victory over the Serb, world No.60 Tanasugarn made her best result at a Grand Slam, reaching the quarterfinals for the first time. At Wimbledon, after six exits in the fourth round, the Thai veteran finally went further.

Jelena Jankovic beats Caroline Wozniacki, reaches fourth round at WimbledonSecond seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia lost the first set against rising star Caroline Wozniacki, and I’m sure everyone’s first thought was Will this be another Sharapova/Ivanovic moment?, but fighting J.J. didn't let the trend take her over. The world No.3 reached the fourth round at Wimbledon 2008 defeating the Danish 17-year-old 2-6 6-4 6-2.

Jankovic was broken twice as she lost the first set, during which she also sustained a left knee injury. Jankovic then broke the 2006 Wimbledon junior champion Wozniacki right away in the opening game of the second set, and it proved to be the last and decisive break of the set. In the decider, J.J. was two breaks up against the world No.30 Wozniacki, and sealed victory on first match point.

Jelena Jankovic’s biggest dream is Wimbledon title

Jelena Jankovic at WimbledonWorld number three Jelena Jankovic still hasn’t won a Grand Slam, and is probably the best active player never to have won one, but Wimbledon is her first pick if she were to choose.

The 23-year-old, seeded second in the women's singles at Wimbledon 2008 said:

"For me if I could choose which Grand Slam I would like to win I would choose Wimbledon. It's a very special place. I don't think there is a place like this. It's just an amazing tournament overall and all of the players love coming back here and we all would love to do well and have a great result." Read more »
