Luxury loving Jelena Jankovic builds a dream house in San Diego

Jelena Jankovic and lamborghiniWorld No.3 Jelena Jankovic owns a house in Miami, but is now in the process of building another one, this time in an upscale neighborhood north of San Diego.

On several occasions Jankovic mentioned how she likes to spend money. She loves expensive clothes, fast cars, as well as her 24-carat Sony Ericsson mobile phone, but now she's investing in something more valuable.

"I think it's worth it to buy, for example, houses or some type of properties where you're always going to have that money. When you buy shoes or bags, who you going to sell that to?" said the 23-year-old Serb.

Even though JJ, who has earned about four million dollars in career prize money, still hasn't seen the property, she saw the architect's plan, and is excited to build a house from her dreams. Read more »

Jankovic takes the last semifinal berth at Indian Wells as Davenport retires

Jelena JankovicJelena Jankovic joined Svetlana Kuznetsova, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic in the last four at the Pacific Life Open when American Lindsay Davenport retired from their quarterfinal because of a back injury.

The 31-year-old Davenport, two times a champion at Indian Wells, summoned her trainer when trailing third-seeded Jankovic 4-1. After losing the first set 6-2, Davenport decided to retire.

"I've gone down this road before and you never know, maybe it'll loosen up," said Davenport. "My back was injured before I came here (to Indian Wells) but it got better and got better.

"Then I woke up this morning and I just couldn't move. It was pretty obvious to me after two games that it was pretty sore out there and pretty hard to rotate."

This year at Indian Wells we’ll have an all-Russian semifinal featuring Kuznetsova and Sharapova, and an all-Serbian semifinal with Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic. Interestingly, all the semifinalists are Top 5 players. (source: Reuters, photo: Getty Images)

Jelena Jankovic’s luggage lost twice

Jelena JankovicJelena Jankovic's travel from Bangalore to Palm Springs was everything but easy, and in the process her luggage, or more precisely her belongings, were lost twice!

Here’s how Jankovic explains her struggles, with some funny comments as always:

I played in Bangalore last week and my first flight went to Dubai, then Frankfurt, then here to the States, and I eventually made my way here to Palm Springs. It felt like I went to Australia and back! I changed flights so many times I didn't know where I was half the time […] The funniest stop was Los Angeles – I landed there around 10 or 11 at night and I was one of the only people in the airport, and there was this strange music playing, and I just looked like a wounded soldier! My eyes were blood red. I actually looked at myself in the mirror and got scared […] Sadly, my luggage didn't come here with me. It got lost in Dubai, and I still don't know when it's going to get here. My mom was meeting me here, so before she left Miami (where I have a house) I asked her if she could bring me some of my clothes and other necessities, and she packed them – but her luggage also got lost! What are the chances of both of us having our luggage lost by the airlines? I think I'd have a better chance at winning the lottery.

Luckily, the luggage Jelena's mother lost has been retrieved, so the tennis star has at least something to wear. (source: Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, photo via Getty Images)

Jelena Jankovic desperate for full-time coach

Jelena JankovicWorld No.4 Jelena Jankovic admitted she really needs a good full-time coach who would help her realize her full potential.

"I don't want to be alone anymore," said Jankovic, who’s just turned 23. "I want somebody to help me improve my game. I want to listen to somebody who has better knowledge than I do."

Jankovic believes there are many areas of the game she can work on and improve herself, but she lacks guidance of a professional coach that would always be there for her.

"I still have a lot of room for improvement, which is a good thing when I am No.4 in the world," added Jankovic. "If I have the right coach who has a lot of knowledge and can raise my level by putting me on the right track, I can really reach my full potential and do great things in tennis." Read more »

Svetlana Kuznetsova overcomes Jelena Jankovic to reach Dubai final

Svetlana KuznetsovaAt the Barclays Dubai Tennis Championships, second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova came out as a winner of a seesaw semifinal against fourth seed Jelena Jankovic. Final score 5-7 6-4 6-3.

Amazingly, there were a total of 43 break points during the match. Jankovic converted 14 out of 21, and Kuznetsova 16 out of 22. The match was long and undecided, but it seemed to me that world No.4 Jankovic let the victory slip through her fingers as she was more confident and emotionally stable and seemed more likely to win throughout the match. Actually, even though I believe a few of Jankovic’s wasted chances gave Kuznetsova the victory, towards the end of the match, Jankovic's tiredness and Kuznetsova's physical fitness and energy also had their share in deciding the winner.
