Ballet inspires Stella McCartney’s 2011 dress for Caroline Wozniacki

adidas by Stella McCartney Ballerina Dress 2011 for Caroline WozniackiThe 2010 season was all in the shades of gray and filled with riffles for Caroline Wozniacki, but the person behind her on-court fashion, Stella McCartney, decided to be more generous to the world No.1 in the next year – Tennis Identity shared great photos of Stella’s new tennis collection and revealed that Caroline will have a different outfit for every Grand Slam in 2011.

There is this white Ballerina Dress with neon underwear, the trend of contrast Stella McCartney started towards the end of the last season with Tennis Performance Dress. Interestingly, the Ballerina Dress will be available only in Europe.

The international market will see other pieces of the adidas by Stella McCartney Spring/Summer 2011 collection for tennis: a ruffle tank in blueprint, a pleated skirt in white or blueprint, tank in infrared or white, a big gray tennis bag, and so called eileithyia tennis sneakers.

Additional info: The collection is part of the adidas Better Place Program, meaning that the process of making the collection, as well as the clothes themselves, are green.

Caroline Wozniacki in adidas by Stella McCartney – 2010 fashion review

Caroline Wozniacki

This year we launched our well-known tennis fashion retrospections with Fila and Kim Clijsters, even though I first started working on the review of world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki’s outfits. The thing is that I was blinded by Wozniacki's beige, light gray and white so much that I couldn’t tell the difference among all the outfits, so I switched to Clijsters before finding the patience to look through all the similar designs adidas by Stella McCartney had in store for 2010.

Regular readers of this blog know that I am a huge fan of Stella McCartney and her work, including the colors she chooses for tennis clothes. This year, however, it was too much of similar colors, you have to really pay attention to detail to differentiate one dress from another.

The breath of fresh air arrived only at the end of the season, with the innovatively-designed black dress accompanied by lime bra and shorts underneath.

The only non-neutral color Wozniacki wore earlier during the season was for doubles matches. The two photos at the end of this post were taken at the US Open and you can see Wozniacki wearing a yellow shirt. Read more »

Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka raise money for children in Minsk

World No.1 Caroline Wozniacki came to Minsk to play a charity exhibition match with good friend Victoria Azarenka on November 19. Thanks to Caroline’s Twitter updates we learned that upon her arrival to Belarus she had dinner with Victoria and her mother on Thursday evening and then in the morning the tennis stars had an emotional experience in the hospital for children with cancer. They were both touched by the kids and their warmth and Victoria said how she almost cried.

Afterwards, they had lunch with the Belarusian president. Finally, later on Friday they played the charity tennis match and it was a successful event – many people came to support the cause and a lot of money was raised for the kids (i.e. for the Republican Scientific Practical Center of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Baraulyany). I still have no info as to who won, but that is not even important. What's significant are the experiences of the players and the positive results their engagement brought.

Here are Victoria's words: "Mind-blowing experience. Caroline was amazing and again I can't thank her enough."

And Caroline said: "Amazing experience today playing with Victoria! Can’t describe how good that felt!" (photos: © Neal Trousdale)

Twitter list of women’s tennis players – all tweets in one place

Wozniacki's and Serena's tweets

Twitter is huge these days and a lot of women’s tennis players are active there so you can get a lot of first-hand info if you follow what they are tweeting. To make it easy for us to be up-to-date with what WTA players are saying, I made a cool widget which compiles all the players’ tweets, and you can see it even if you don’t have a Twitter account.

Zvonareva's tweet

My list currently includes 35 players such as Caroline Wozniacki, Victoria Azarenka, Serena Williams, Svetlana Kuznetsova, Daniela Hantuchova, Dominika Cibulkova, Venus Williams, Andrea Petkovic, Vera Zvonareva, Kim Clijsters, Sania Mirza, Bethanie Mattek Sands, and many others, and I will add more as more players join Twitter.

To see what players are saying just visit Women’s Tennis Blog and scroll down to the widget located below the fourth post on the homepage. It looks like this:

I hope you like this new addition to Women’s Tennis Blog. If you think I missed out on someone, let me know and I will add them to the list! (photos: Ralf Reinecke, Women Who Serve)
