Win autographed picture of Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic

The time has come for the lovely readers of Women's Tennis Blog to get a little tennis present!

I’ve been in contact with Kevin, the editor of the Sony Ericcson WTA Tour’s website, and he was so kind as to provide me with a signed picture of Jelena Jankovic to give to one of my lucky readers. We're having a very good cooperation, so I suppose there will be more nice surprises from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour via Women’s Tennis Blog.

As for Ana Ivanovic's signed picture, the story is the following: As you probably know, I’m a huge fan of Ana Ivanovic’s website, and logically of the team behind it. It was a long time ago that they kindly sent me an autographed picture of Ana, and I have to say they were absolutely amazing, sending me the picture within days of my request. However, only now am I distributing it further, but better late than never. :) I was waiting for the right occasion.

You can become eligible to win either of the two autographed pictures of Serbian tennis stars by answering the following question correctly:

How many weeks have Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic combined spent on top of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles rankings?

I know the question is not too easy, so let me help you a bit: It’s a round number!

Please, submit your answers in the comments section of this post. Where it asks for your e-mail, please provide a legitimate one, as I will contact you via that e-mail.

Two of the lucky winners, chosen randomly, will each receive one of the signed pictures.

The competition will last until Saturday, August 15, 7 pm Central-European time. The winners will be contacted shortly after.

Good luck and thank you for participating! ;)

Zheng stuns Safina in Los Angeles, Ivanovic also upset, Sharapova advances

Zheng JieChina's Zheng Jie recorded one of the biggest wins of her career by beating world No.1 Dinara Safina 7-5 4-6 6-4 at the $700,000 2009 LA Women’s Tennis Championships presented by Herbalife.

The 23nd-ranked Zheng had beaten a world No.1 before – Ana Ivanovic in the third round of last year's Wimbledon – but had never beaten Safina.

"She’s a good player and it’s tough to play her," said Safina after the third-round defeat. "In this match I didn’t do the right things. I should have played better. Today, she took her chances and beat me."

Zheng, the 14th seed, will next face Australian 13th seed Samantha Stosur, who dominated current world No.11 Ana Ivanovic 6-3 6-2 in the third round. Stosur has scored her sixth win over a Top 15 opponent this year. Also, she has defeated former top-ranked players in consecutive weeks, having beaten Serena Williams in the Stanford quarterfinals.

World No.61 Maria Sharapova, after upsetting third seed Victoria Azarenka in the previous round, rebounded from a slow first-set start for the second straight day and defeated Alona Bondarenko 4-6 6-0 6-3. In the quarterfinals, Sharapova will face Poland's Urszula Radwanska, who got a walkover from No.12 seed Li Na due to a right knee injury. (photo via Sony Ericsson WTA Tour)

Ana Ivanovic no longer coached by Scott Byrnes

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic has parted ways with Scott Byrnes, her strength and conditioning coach of the past three years.

Here’s what Ivanovic had to say about her cooperation with Byrnes:

I would like to thank Scott for all his hard work. We achieved so much together and I will always look back with fondness at this period of my career. Scott really transformed my fitness and I wish him all the best for the future.

Byrnes will embrace a more tranquil life in his native Australia, after constantly being on the road for several years. (source: Ana Ivanovic's official website, photo: Ralf Reinecke)
