Ana Ivanovic already started training for 2010

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic's 2009 season was full of emotional and physical instabilities, and the obvious outcome is that the Serb ended 2008 ranked 5th, and now she's No.22.

The 22-year-old Ivanovic finished the 2009 season prior to the China Open, in the beginning of October, and now she has started practicing for her future challenges.

I've already started training again, to be ready for the new season. At the moment it's just fitness, but tennis will start next week, with Sven.

There's not much else to say at the moment. Always when I begin my off-season training the focus is on fitness, then I gradually move onto tennis, and by the end of the training block tennis is of course the main focus.

I had a good break. It was just what I needed!

Ana Ivanovic falls out of Top 20

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic has fallen from the already disappointing No.16 to No.22 in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles rankings.

Ivanovic’s current position is likely to be her year-end ranking for 2009, which will be her worst year-end ranking in five years. The last two years she finished fourth.

Remember this Ivanovic’s statement from the beginning of this month:

On the positive side, I am still No.11 in the world. I have no clue how I am ranked so highly, but to look on the bright side, I can't play any worse than I did this year and I'm still in the top 20!

No surprise, good circumstances didn’t last that long! (photo: Ralf Reinecke)

Ana Ivanovic puts an end to 2009 tennis season

Ana IvanovicFormer world No.1 Ana Ivanovic has ended her unsuccessful 2009 season, withdrawing from the China Open due to an upper respiratory tract infection. Ana talks about the season behind her and here are some parts of her latest diary entry.

I guess having to withdraw from Beijing is an appropriate ending to a very disappointing season.

I have gone through a lot of training and physical changes over the past few months, which have mostly remained private until now… My body is quite fragile at the moment, because I over-trained during the first part of the year. This was, I think, what caused me to have many small injuries this season.

Instead of being patient and accepting that my best form was almost impossible due to physical limitations, I was always over-thinking things, and I never dealt with it very well.

On the positive side, I am still No.11 in the world. I have no clue how I am ranked so highly, but to look on the bright side, I can't play any worse than I did this year and I'm still in the top 20!

Despite my disappointments there is not a single doubt in my mind that I will reach the top again and win Grand Slams.

No end to Ana Ivanovic’s woes, upset in Tokyo round one

Ana IvanovicAna Ivanovic’s slump is still strong, as she followed her first-round loss at the US Open with a first-round exit at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.

The Serbian world No.11 Ivanovic was buried under a deluge of unforced errors and Czech Lucie Safarova defeated her 6-4 7-6(1).

"I know how Ana is feeling and I feel it with her," said Safarova, who is now tied at 2-2 in career meetings with Ivanovic. "She's struggling with her serve and when that goes, all your game goes."

Additional info: World No.10 Flavia Pennetta of Italy fell to compatriot Roberta Vinci 6-1 6-2 in the opening round, and was the first Top 10 member to exit the $2 million tournament, featuring nine of the world's Top 10 women’s tennis players. (source: Reuters, photo via Sony Ericsson WTA Tour)
