Amelie Mauresmo continues to rise with Patty Schnyder upset

Amelie MauresmoFormer world number one Amelie Mauresmo seems to be starting a new, better life on the Tour as she reached the quarterfinals of the Pilot Pen Tennis presented by Schick in New Haven and continued her recent revival.

Mauresmo, currently ranked 33rd, upset fifth seed Patty Schnyder 6-4 3-6 7-6 saving a match point on the way to victory.

Mauresmo’s year was struck by injuries and low self-esteem but she seems to be getting back on track: "These are the kind of matches I have been losing in the last year. At some point it affects your confidence, so to win one like this is good and hopefully I can build from here."

Amelie Mauresmo loses to qualifier in French Open second round

Amelie MauresmoTwo-times Grand Slam champion Amelie Mauresmo was upset in the second round of Roland Garros by Spanish qualifier Carla Suarez Navarro with the final score 6-3 6-4.

No.22 seed Mauresmo, who before Roland Garros had not played since last month's Fed Cup tie in Japan due to an abdominal injury, refused to blame the injury for yet another disappointing result at the French Open.

On her Grand Slam debut the 19-year-old Suarez Navarro beat Pauline Parmentier in the first round, and could next face a third Frenchwoman in a row if Nathalie Dechy were to beat Australian Casey Dellacqua. (source: Reuters, photo via Tennis Channel)

Amelie Mauresmo loses to Alona Bondarenko at Pacific Life Open

Amelie MauresmoFormer world No.1 Amelie Mauresmo suffered yet another early exit, this time to Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko. The Frenchwoman lost 6-1 6-2 in the third round of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells.

Mauresmo, who is now ranked only 27th in the world, simply can’t get back in form and this loss will make her agony and thoughts of retirement even more intense. In today’s match with world No.24 Bondarenko, Mauresmo could barely keep her serves in play and posted seven double faults. Bondarenko took advantage of Mauresmo’s poor form and did not even give the two-time Grand Slam champion a look at a break point.
