Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland beat defending champion and top seed Elena Dementieva 6-3 6-2 to capture the Istanbul Cup on Saturday.

The victory in the Istanbul Cup final earned world No.15 Radwanska her third WTA singles title, and the second one this season (she also won in Thailand in February).

Radwanska has never lost in a WTA title match, improving to 3-0. She is also 2-1 lifetime against Dementieva, who had not lost in seven previous matches at this event.

World No.21 Agnieszka Radwanska won the Pattaya Women’s Open yesterday and in current form the 18-year-old Pole is on the right way to become much better-known among wider tennis audience.

With the victory in Pattaya City, Radwanska won her second career title, the first one was the Nordic Light Open in Stockholm last year, when she defeated Vera Dushevina in the final.

In the final of the Pattaya Women's Open, a Tier IV tournament in Thailand, top-seeded Radwanska defeated Jill Craybas 6-2 1-6 7-6 (7-4) after an intense two-hour match. With the victory Radwanska improved to 2-0 lifetime against Craybas, who was trying for her second career singles crown and first since 2002.

Radwanska was the first player from Poland to win a tour title, break into the top 30 and reach the last eight of a Grand Slam, and her achievements made tennis more popular in her home country. Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska, the player who stunned defending champion Maria Sharapova in the third round of the 2007 US Open, scored her second major Grand Slam upset with a 6-3 6-4 win over second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova to reach the last 16 at the Australian Open.

Radwanska, seeded 29th, raced into a 3-0 lead in the first set. Although Kuznetsova quickly leveled, her inconsistency returned and the confident Krakow teenager took three straight games to win the first set. The 18-year-old Radwanska rallied from 0-3 down in the second to take a 4-3 advantage, and after Kuznetsova tied, Radwanska took the final two games to score the victory.

"I was not playing against her, I was playing against me," said extremely disappointed Kuznetsova, who believed to be better prepared than even for the Australian Open. However, Radwanska believes that her determination was what gave her the victory: "I played against her a few times, always losing, so I said 'no more'."

Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova became the fifth of eight seeds to leave the Zurich Open early (after Ana Ivanovic, Jelena Jankovic, Amelie Mauresmo, and Serena Williams). The seventh seeded Slovakian lost to Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3 6-3 in the second round. This means that Hantuchova’s chances of qualifying for the season-ending WTA Championships in Madrid are getting slimmer.

World number nine Hantuchova partly blames the cold for her loss: "I had a really hard time today trying to catch my breath in between points. I have been fighting a cold for the past few days and I really just had nothing left and became very tired out there." Read more »

Agnieszka Radwanska’s run at the US Open ended with a 6-4 6-1 defeat by eighteen-seeded Shahar Peer of Israel. The teenager from Krakow became famous for upsetting defending champion Maria Sharapova in the third round, but she was not strong enough to overcome her next obstacle, world number nineteen Shahar Peer.

In her second Grand Slam quarterfinal of the year, Shahar Peer will face the winner of the match Anna Chakvetadze vs. Tamira Paszek.
