Top seed Radwanska stunned by Hampton in Eastbourne opener

Seed No.1 Agnieszka Radwanska fell at the first hurdle at the Aegon International in Eastbourne, but she shouldn't despair, as last year she also had such a short grasscourt tournament preparation for Wimbledon and she ended up in the finals of the the Championships.

Last year the Pole lost in the first round of Eastbourne to Tsvetana Pironkova, while today her conqueror was Jamie Hampton, the American qualifier who crowed the claycourt season with a fourth-round finish at Roland Garros. Radwanska lost 7-6(2) 6-2 and it is the ninth time in the past 15 years the top seed said goodbye in their opening match at the tournament.

Williams, Errani progress to the semifinals of Roland Garros

World No.1 Serena Williams reached the French Open semifinals for the first time since 2003 with a challenging victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova, thus avenging the 2009 loss to the Russian at the same stage of the same tournament. Awaiting Williams in the semifinals is last year's runner-up Sara Errani, who was victorious against Agnieszka Radwanska.

For the 207th time in her career Williams was triumphant after winning the first set at a Grand Slam (she has only five such losses), although it was not as easy as her previous matches at this year's Roland Garros in which she dropped a total of 10 games. Read more »

Ivanovic paralized against Radwanska, loses to her for the seventh consecutive time

Agnieszka Radwanska scored a decisive 6-2 6-4 victory over Ana Ivanovic to move into the quarterfinals of Roland Garros, but the score provides a misleading picture about the match – Radwanska's defense and versatile game were superb, but what gave her such a clear-cut win were Ivanovic's persistent mistakes in all the crucial moments of the match, on break and game points. There were dozens of chances where Ivanovic could have overturned the result or at least taken the match to the third set, but she spoiled every hard-earned opportunity, that she had thanks to her great winners and huge fight, with some apparent mental block and fear of Radwanska to whom she has now lost seven straight matches. Roland Garros 2013: who wins the battle of WTA tennis fashion?

Roland Garros 2013 is gaining momentum and after the rain-affected Day 3 we already have enough material to assess the quality of the Grand Slam regarding fashion, as we have been doing with all the major tournaments since 2010.

World number one and absolute favorite for the Roland Garros 2013 title Serena Williams is working the solid grey Nike Women's Summer 1 Wrap Knit Dress with orange shorts underneath. The band below the chest highlights the waist, the slit on the skirt brings extra elegance, while the upper part of the dress is characterized by the V-neck and elastic tank straps.

Ana Ivanovic is wearing the wonderful Adidas Women's Roland Garros 2013 Dress in navy with orange accents – in my opinion the prettiest dress of the tournament and perfect color combination for red clay. Read more »

Jovanovski turns the match over to upset Wozniacki in Rome, Radwanska falls to Halep

On the opening of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Laura Robson made the story of the day by taking out Venus Williams and setting up a meeting with Serena Williams in the second round, while another famous up-and-comer took the spotlight on Day 2 in the first round - Bojana Jovanovski upset tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki 2-6 6-4 7-6(5) for her second career Top 10 victory and will next face fellow Serb Jelena Jankovic, who was her first Top 10 victim back in 2010.

Since reaching the second week of the 2013 Australian Open, her best Grand Slam result, the 48th-ranked Jovanovski lost eight straight matches, struggled with injuries and even dramatic personal life (her ex-boyfriend jumped off a bridge in Belgrade), but today against Wozniacki she recovered from losing the first set, being a break down in the second at 3-4, 0-4 in the third set, then 4-5 in the third when Wozniacki was serving for the match and then again recovered from 2-5 in the tiebreak to battle to the win in two hours and 57 minutes.

The highest seed to fall on Tuesday was No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska. The Pole lost handily to world No.64 Simona Halep 6-7(2) 6-1 6-2 in the second round, while Svetlana Kuznetsova was the Romanian's victim in the first round 6-1 6-1. Agnieszka's lower-ranked sister Urszula advanced to the second round with an upset of seed No.15 Ana Ivanovic, 6-3 2-6 6-2. (source: WTA Tour, photo: © Neal Trousdale)

Li Na makes triumphant comeback in Miami, Serena also victorious

Today at the Sony Open Tennis in Miami Li Na played her first match since injuring her left ankle in the Australian Open final a month and a half ago and the comeback was successful, a 6-3 6-1 victory over world No.42 Kiki Bertens. The fifth-seeded Li won the second-round match without dropping serve, ending it with ten straight points won. The Chinese is happy with how her game worked today and said she entered the encounter excited rather than nervous.

World No.1 Serena Williams was another highlight of the day, beating Flavia Pennetta 6-1 6-1. The match was less straightforward than the score suggests. Serena faced seven break points, but amazingly defended them all, and earned as much as 18 break points on Pennetta's serve, but the Italian's percentage of saving them was not as good as her opponent's and she was broken six times to lose the match in one hour and 17 minutes. Serena was playing her first match since becoming WTA No.1 again.

Fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska had a quick passage into the third round, beating Hsieh Su-Wei 6-3 6-2, while seed No.7 Petra Kvitova and seed No.9 Caroline Wozniacki both battled from a set down: Kvitova to beat Peng Shuai 5-7 6-2 6-2, Wozniacki against Karolina Pliskova 5-7 6-3 6-3. Azarenka through, Radwanska beaten by Kirilenko

Despite complaining that her ankle has been bothering her for a while, top seed Victoria Azarenka, unbeaten in 17 matches this season, remained on course in her title defense at the BNP Paribas Open by cruising into the last eight with a 6-3 6-1 victory over Urszula Radwanska, while Urszula's more successful sister Agnieszka Radwanska was the only upset of the day, as the third seed fell to seed No.13 Maria Kirilenko. After quickly losing the first set, Agnieszka fought back to win the second and go 3-1 up in the third, before Kirilenko won four straight games for a 5-3 lead and a 6-1 4-6 7-5 victory after a small slump.

Maria Sharapova won a close opening set against Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino, before storming through the second in just 22 minutes for a 7-5 6-0 victory, Angelique Kerber defeated Garbine Muguruza 6-4 7-5, Petra Kvitova advanced with a comfortable 6-2 6-3 win over fellow Czech Klara Zakopalova, Sara Errani took out Marion Bartoli 6-3 6-2, Samantha Stosur was better than Mona Barthel 4-6 6-2 6-3 and Caroline Wozniacki beat Nadia Petrova 7-6(3) 6-3 in the fourth round.
