Officially dating: Maria Sharapova and Grigor Dimitrov kissing on the streets of Madrid

The speculations about the love story between WTA world No.2 Maria Sharapova and ATP world No.28 Grigor Dimitrov started in the end of November 2012 when the Russian beauty was shopping in Milan and her Bulgarian colleague appeared in the footage of the stroll through the fashion city, but now, five months later, the couple finally decided to come out and confirm their relationship publicly by kissing and hugging in the streets of Madrid on Wednesday night, which of course the paparazzi diligently recorded.

The confirmation of the love match between Sharapova and Dimitrov comes about a year after Sharapova's end of engagement to basketball player Sasha Vujacic, whose fiancée she became in October 2010, while the split that happened in late spring was confirmed in the end of August 2012. Read more »

Sharapova and Ivanovic in Milan: tennis, Armani, shopping, tricky interviews

On December 1st, Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic teamed up for a doubles match for the first time at an exhibition in Milan. Their opponents were experienced Italian partners Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, who won two Grand Slam doubles titles in 2012, on top of six WTA doubles titles. The newbie doubles team lost, but as individuals, in singles, they were victorious. Tennis was not the only highlight of the Milan story, though.

There was this hilarious interview with Ivanovic and Sharapova. They were asked which thing they would like to have that the other one has, and Sharapova said she would love Serbian fans, as they are more enthusiastic than the Russians. The best, of course, was saved for the last, when the interviewer asked them what they think which one would marry first and Ivanovic responded that Sharapova was closer! Hahaha. Sharapova laughed it out, but slowly started packing her stuff, closing the interview. Read more »

Jelena Jankovic and Mladjan Janovic break up after four years of dating

I've been writing about women's tennis for five and a half years and this is by far the busiest period regarding wedding/hookup/breakup news. In just a period of a week we had the wedding of Iveta Benesova and Jurgen Melzer, announcement of Justine Henin's pregnancy and spottings of Serena and Venus Williams with new boyfriends. Also, just three weeks ago we learned about Maria Sharapova's called-off engagement to Sasha Vujacic, and now we're hearing that Jelena Jankovic ended her four-year relationship with Mladjan Janovic for pretty much the same reasons as Sharapova's – career obligations drew them apart.

Jankovic and the handsome Montenegrin waterpolo player met at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, more precisely in McDonald's, and have since been in a stable relationship, at least according to the information that reached the media, but the fact that Jankovic is traveling the world playing tennis and Janovic is usually in Italy where he plays for Savona has finally taken its toll. The split happened several months ago and it was amicable.

According to a Serbian source, Mladjan spent his summer in Kotor, Montenegro, where Jelena used to be a regular, even before she met him, but this year Jelena didn't visit the seaside town and Mladjan was seen in the arms of another woman.

UPDATED: Sharapova and Vujacic breakup pretty much official!

I can't believe just two days after I wrote about how distant Maria Sharapova and her fiancé Sasha Vujacic seem lately and how, according to Sharapova's statements, the wedding seems to be a distant thing on her mind, even though they got engaged almost two years ago, we're getting the quite official information that the tennis-basketball couple is no more. Actually, they probably broke up three months ago! Everything matches – that's about the period Maria has been without her expensive engagement ring. Read more »

What's going on with Maria Sharapova's marriage?

Lately I've been thinking about how awkwardly silent Maria Sharapova has been about her marriage and I decided to give the topic attention in hope of getting some insider/wise reader input. It's been almost two years since Masha and Sasha Vujacic got engaged and the topic of the wedding seems to be a far away subject on their minds, or they are playing such a game for the media. The question is, could they be hiding the split, postponing the worse, or they are just private and relaxed about their wedding plans?

First of all, no recent sightings of the couple have reached the media, while before, every now and then there was some story about them. Moreover, what happened to the giant engagement ring on Sharapova's left hand? According to the sharp eye of our reader Katrin, who pitched me to dig into this issue, the ring has been missing since about the start of the summer.

That's not the only strange thing surrounding this story.  Just days ago Sharapova said that the November Istanbul wedding was just a rumor:

That's not true. I'm definitely not getting married in Istanbul in November. I'm surprised anyone believed that.

However, it's suspicious that in the interview for the September 2012 issue of Hamptons magazine, Maria didn't correct the interviewer!

Hamptons: You're getting married to Sasha Vujacic, a Slovenian professional basketball player (who played for the Lakers and the Nets), on November 10 in Istanbul, Turkey. Do you see yourself one day becoming a mom? Read more »
