Alize Cornet wins third WTA title in Strasbourg

In a match-up of two former Internationaux de Strasbourg runner-ups, third seed Alize Cornet beat Lucie Hradecka  7-6(4) 6-0 and clinched her third career WTA title (all on clay), after Budapest (2008) and Bad Gastein (2012). I ran across a peculiar piece of info on Twitter, the rankings of opponents Cornet beat in title runs: 37, 41, 61, 93, 94, 106, 107, 112, 135, 157, 180, 211, 212, 241.

The world No.31 Cornet, who will climb to No.27 in the rankings, had two set points in the tenth game of the first set, Hradecka saved them both, broke for a 6-5 lead and served for the set, but got broken and then lost the tiebreak to soon also lose her sixth final and remain without WTA titles.

Before Hradecka, Cornet, who did not reach a WTA final from 2009 to 2011, defeated Mathilde Johansson in the first round of Strasbourg, Magda Linette in the second, seventh seed Chanelle Scheepers in the quarterfinals and Eugenie Bouchard in the semis. The top seed at the tournament, France’s Marion Bartoli, was upset in the first round by Camila Giorgi. (photo: Ralf Reinecke)

Maria Kirilenko graces the cover of Women's Health Russia

Maria Kirilenko is on the cover of the June 2013 issue of the Russian edition of Women's Health. The 26-year-old tennis star is beautifully working her relatively new blonder-than-before hair.

Maria's most recent tournament was the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, which she had to leave with an unfortunate left knee injury in the round of 16 against Sara Errani. The Russian is now enjoying a week off and she's expected to rejoin the WTA action in time for the French Open which starts on May 26th. (via The Slice)

Adidas by Stella McCartney gives details about Caroline Wozniacki's French Open kit

As early as in November 2012 we got a peek into the Adidas by Stella McCartney apparel for the first half of 2013 and the latest press release by the brand confirms that their biggest star Caroline Wozniacki will wear the blue version of the Barricade summer dress, but also provides detailed information about the brand new Barricade shoes that "fuse advanced technical superiority with standout style".

The dress, highlighted by the adjustable yellow tank straps, available for $120, will be accompanied by lemon Barricade shoes specially designed to endure extreme lateral movements and demanding rallies. The shoe will be available as of June 1 for $125, while its official launch is scheduled for Wimbledon, when it will be worn by all the other Stella representatives, including Maria Kirilenko and Laura Robson.

In non-fashion Caroline Wozniacki news, the Dane today lost her fourth straight first match of a tournament, falling to Zheng Jie in the second round of the Brussels Open after a first-round bye. After recording a rain-delayed victory over American qualifier Mallory Burdette 6-2 4-6 6-3, Zheng proceeded with the winning ways, upsetting the top-seeded 2011 Brussels champion Wozniacki 6-2 6-4 by hitting twice as many winners than her opponent, while in the department of the unforced errors they were shoulder-to-shoulder.

Alisa Kleybanova wins $10,000 Landisville for first title since cancer recovery

Alisa Kleybanova was struck by Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the spring of 2011, at the time her ranking was No.26, and after a brief comeback at Miami last season, the Russian decided to test her chances at smaller tournaments, which would also allow her to keep her protected ranking and thus enter the bigger tournaments, and at the first such small event she entered, the $10,000 Landisville, PA, held from May 13 to May 19, the 23-year-old went from the qualifying all the way to the title.

After three wins in the qualifying, the former world No.20 Kleybanova recorded five victories in the main draw, dropping just one set in the eight matches. In the final she defeated Natalie Pluskota 6-3 6-0. (photo: chascow)

Roland Garros 2013 fashion: Fila chooses pink and navy for Jankovic, Goerges and Petrova

Just like Adidas for Ana Ivanovic, Fila opted for navy for the upcoming French Open, one of Fila's signature colors which perfectly suits the red clay. The contrast is provided by pink and white. The Summer 2013 Baseline collection features various types of shirts, two versions of the Summer Baseline dress, skorts in white, pink and navy, a hooded jacket and matching pants, wristbands and a pink visor.

Jelena Jankovic, the most recognizable face of Fila, will wear the dress with thick straps, racer back and laser cut mesh overlay on upper back and skirt. Other high-profile Fila representatives Julia Goerges and Nadia Petrova are expected to sport the separates – the skort and tank – Goerges in pink and Petrova in navy.
