Our Jimmie48‘s Tuesday at the Nature Valley Classic in Birmingham started with the joint practice session of Petra Kvitova and Elina Svitolina, while later on he photographed their first-round matches — defending champion and fourth seed Kvitova eliminated home star Johanna Konta 6-3 6-4, while second seed Svitolina survived a second-set slump against Donna Vekic to victoriously open her grasscourt season.
The upset of the day was qualifier Dalila Jakupovic‘s 3-6 7-6(7) 6-1 triumph over seventh seed Elise Mertens in the first round.
In her first match on grass this year, top seed and reigning Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza lost just three games against Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, while the Spaniard’s doubles partner Daria Kasatkina, seeded sixth, won a three-setter against qualifier Kristyna Pliskova.
