Eight most successful women of the 2017 tennis season glammed up for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global draw ceremony held on Friday at the Marina Bay Sands. Our photographer Jimmie48 was right there, giving us a closer look at the fashion choices the WTA stars made for the purple red carpet.

World No.1 Simona Halep, the Red Group leader, shared a message with her simple V-neck black dress, as the word “equality” was stitched in the see-through hem.

Earlier in the day, the Romanian was awarded a red Porshe 911 Carrera GTS for winning the Porsche Race to Singapore.

Joining Halep in the Red Group are Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki and Caroline Garcia.

The WTA Finals debutante Elina Svitolina rocked a blue side-slit halter-neck dress designed and made by her mom.

Caroline Wozniacki, whose best result at the tournament was the final in 2010, attended the gala in a bodysuit consisting of a white sleeveless V-neck top and red pants accessorized with a black bow in place of a belt.

Caroline Garcia, who arrived in Singapore on a high of her recent Wuhan and Beijing titles, expressed her happiness and confidence by wearing a pure red strappy dress.

Topping the White Group is Garbine Muguruza, followed by Karolina Pliskova, Venus Williams and Jelena Ostapenko.

The WTA Player of the Year Garbine Muguruza, who claimed her second Grand Slam title at Wimbledon this year, showed some proper posing skills at the red-carpet event, with her hair and make-up game better than ever.

Karolina Pliskova, the player opening this year’s WTA Finals action with her Sunday’s match against Venus Williams, opted for dramatic roses on a black background and long wavy hairstyle.

Exuding confidence, the 2008 WTA Finals champion Venus Williams rocked a tight studded black mini dress and peep-toe shoes.

Jelena Ostapenko, the Most Improved WTA Player of the Year with her maiden tour-level singles title coming at Roland Garros, wore a red chest-ruffle dress and classic black elegant heels.

Following Sunday’s opening ceremony, the tournament kicks off with the White Group round-robin play, while the Red Group players will start their campaigns on Monday.

  1. I know they are tennis players and not fashion models but if they are going to dress up like this then they really should have stylists to help them choose something that will look good in the photos. I think Garcia, Venus, Simona and Garbine look quite good, Garbine is the most elegant, but elena and caro woz look out of place with the rest of them – they should coordinate the outfits so they look good in the group photo. Apart from that Caro’s outfit is ok, but Svitolina’s shiny dress doesn’t look good under lights and is tacky (aha – I see it was made by her mother – figures!). Pliskova looks cheap as usual – hard to be classy with that big tattoo – and jelena ostapenko just looks terrible!

  2. Venus Is stunning!!!! The dress Is perfect and Venus Is perfect!!!
Wozniacki Is classy, i like svitolina dress(i have a similar dress too) and Garcia Is si Pretty.
    Garbine Is elegant but serious.
I Don’t like much the other dresess

  3. Venus Is stunning!!!! The dress Is perfect and Venus Is perfect!!!
Wozniacki Is classy, i like svitolina dress(i have a similar dress too) and Garcia Is si Pretty.
    Garbine Is elegant but serious.
I Don’t like much the other dresess, ostapenko has the worst dress

  4. IMO:
Garcia: too girly and too short. Looks like a little girl’s dress.
Caroline Wozniacki: classy and elegant but a bit out of place with the others.
Svitolina: I kind of like the colour but the fabric is way too shiny and the vent too high, making the dress look cheap.
Halep & Muguruza: similar dresses. OK, black and safe but a little plain.
Pliskova: Trashy. A pity since she has a model’s figure. Needs a stylist!
Venus: elegant but a little too short.
Ostapenko: Oh my! Probably too young to know better. The dress is completely wrong for her body type. Poor girl, she really needs a stylist!

  5. Venus was by far the best dressed and the way she carries herself also plays a part. Garbi looked stunning, which has more to do with her great posture, hair and makeup. I have to agree that Ostapenko is on a totally wrong track here.

  6. I think this year, the players did not focus much on fashion. I love the 2014 edition where everybody was so glamorous! I have to agree, V looks stunning and confident. I also love Caroline’s style here.

  7. Emman Damian, I think they all did their best, it’s just that some of them were more successful than others.
