Three months after giving birth to baby boy Leo, former world No.1 Victoria Azarenka is already on a fast track to getting her form back and her goal is not just to return to competitive tennis, but to return better than ever!

In an interview for Tennis Channel, the 27-year-old revealed that realistically her return could be expected during the US Open Series, i.e. after Wimbledon. Just how confident and enthusiastic the Belarusian is can be concluded from the following quotes:

I want to get everything better, from movement to shot selection, shot technique, improve my serve. […] Physically I want to be stronger. I want to work smart to prevent injuries. […] I have no doubt that I can improve much more. That’s why I’m taking my time to work smart and add to my game to become a better player. That’s the only reason why I want to go back and play on the tour. I don’t want to come back and just play. I want to go back and be the best again. That’s my goal.

Vika started training three weeks ago and we can see her body is absolutely athletic. Moreover, she’s now using the opportunity to work on things that she didn’t have time for during off-seasons.

We don’t want to put pressure on Vika, but wouldn’t it be spectacular if she could emulate Kim Clijsters‘ success? Kim, now a mother of three, won THREE Grand Slam titles after giving birth to her first child, in addition to winning the WTA Championships, Brisbane, Miami and Cincinnati.

  1. Wow! Look at that. It seems she did not had labor at all. I’m really excited for Vika’s comeback. She’s one of the fiercest competitors in the game who can really challenge Serena.

  2. Although I am not a big fan of hers (hated it when she beat Li Na at the 2013 AO final), I will be glad for her to return. The WTA needs the likes of Vika and Maria back playing and grunting again! 😉
