Photos from Sydney: Qualifying gets underway in Olympic Park

After bringing you photos from the ASB Classic in New Zealand, our photographer Jimmie48 is already at his second tournament in 2017, providing us with coverage from the Apia International Sydney Premier-level event whose 2017 field is packed with big names, including world #1 Angelique Kerber, Agnieszka Radwanska, Dominika Cibulkova, Karolina Pliskova and Eugenie Bouchard.

While many of the top players are still due to arrive in Sydney from their first-week tournaments, qualifying action kicked off on Friday and 32 players started their journey to make the main draw.

Several high-profile names were off to a successful start, including the 2014 Sydney champion Tsvetana Pironkova, Donna Vekic and Carina Witthoeft, who all made their way into the second qualifying round that is due to be played on Saturday. Jimmie48 also took photos of some practice sessions, including Eugenie Bouchard and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
