While many of the top players are still due to arrive in Sydney from their first-week tournaments, qualifying action kicked off on Friday and 32 players started their journey to make the main draw.

Several high-profile names were off to a successful start, including the 2014 Sydney champion Tsvetana Pironkova, Donna Vekic and Carina Witthoeft, who all made their way into the second qualifying round that is due to be played on Saturday. Jimmie48 also took photos of some practice sessions, including Eugenie Bouchard and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
