Photos from the Aegon International – Quarterfinals are (almost) set

The third round of the 2016 Aegon International in Eastbourne completed on Wednesday and the final Wimbledon lead-up tournament is quickly heading towards its exciting conclusion.

Wednesday had plenty of reasons for the local fans to be happy, as Britain’s Johanna Konta is through to the round of the last eight, having upset two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova.

Kvitova wasn’t the only big-name fatality on Wednesday. Former Eastbourne champion Caroline Wozniacki failed to the make the quarterfinals, losing to Monica PuigEugenie Bouchard is also on the list of defeated players, having fallen to world #3 Agnieszka Radwanska.

Four players drew the short straw on Wednesday, as rain came back in the evening, forcing the matches between Andrea Petkovic & Ekaterina Makarova and Karolina Pliskova & Misaki Doi to be cancelled. Both matches will continue tomorrow, forcing two players to play two matches in a row for a place in the Aegon International semifinals.
