Simona Halep - 2016 Porsche Tennis Grand Prix -DSC_7090__1462373095_94.189.172.205Simona Halep recorded a confident 6-2 6-3 victory over Timea Bacsinszky at the Mutua Madrid Open, in the only all-seeded match-up in the tournament’s third round.

So many seeded players lost in the first two rounds of the event, but sixth-seeded Halep is yet to lose more than three games in a set. In today’s encounter with tenth-seeded Bacsinszky, Halep was in charge throughout the match, even though Bacsinszky did manage to break her serve once in each set, to keep the match competitive.

Halep started with a 3-1 lead, and Bacsinszky’s break in the fifth game turned out to be her last resistance in the set as the Romanian raced to 6-2. The second set Halep opened and closed with a love hold, while in the middle of the set we had intense battle, in particular the exchange of breaks in the third and fourth games and especially the fifth game when Halep saved several break points which proved to be crucial for the outcome of the match.

Today’s victory is Halep’s revenge for her loss to Bacsinszky in Miami quarterfinals in March, although we have to note that Bacsinszky had won seven WTA matches in eight days, including her title run in Morocco last week, so the Swiss must be exhausted. (photo: Jimmie48)
