Met Gala: Sharapova stuns with chunky earring, Wozniacki chooses classic glam

Maria Sharapova Met Gala 2016

Maria Sharapova easily responded to Met Gala's go-extravagant-or-go-home fashion standard, making her first appearance at the event in a poppy red satin slip dress accessorized with a giant earring, while Caroline Wozniacki also opted for red glamour, although not as groundbreaking.

The theme of the 2016 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala was "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology", inviting celebrities, models and designers to explore the relationship between handmade and machine-produced clothes.

Sharapova chose a body-skimming dress by Colombian designer Juan Carlos Obando, who likes to include unexpected details in his clothes, like these loose shoulderless sleeves. The shoes Maria wore are by Gianvito Rossi.

In charge of Maria's hair was Adir Abergel, who made a subtle twist to a regular low ponytail, nicely complementing the gigantic earring for an elegant approach to tribal fashion moments.

Just before stepping out on the red carpet, Wozniacki posted her hair and makeup photo on Twitter, while after the glamorous event in NYC she praised designer Prabal Gurung for making the slit dress fit like a glove. (photos via Maria Sharapova's & Caroline Wozniacki's Twitter)

  1. Mary

NO one, can mix beauty, elegance, class, style and athleticism together like Maria does.
    Gorgeous!! Always, a winner.

  2. Gregoire Gentil

Caroline is 8-7 so far this year. As for Maria, needless to explain why she is not in Madrid… Do they still know how to hold a tennis racket? 🙂 In the mean time, Vika is full speed towards ranking #1.

The fashion queen of Tennis, Maria! Wozniacki also not bad but kind of faded in the present of others much more fashionable celebrities and models.

  4. Jim

Maria in tennis and Michelle Wie in golf should just give up in their respective sports and become models. They both have become real skinny and both are more concerned with fashion than tennis or golf.

  5. Claire

Totally ridiculous. At first, too much Photoshop. Second, what has this to do with tennis?

Agreed, Claire & Gregoire. Besides, where's the stunning part? That's a serious word to use to describe that look. Nonetheless, I'll give her credit (Maria) for coming out of the woodworks.
