Main-draw play kicked off at the 2016 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Wednesday and the first part of first-round action completed with several well-known players getting wins under their belt.

Among those successful names were Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova, British Heather Watson and Germany’s Carina Witthöft. The young German had enjoyed a rather rocky start into the 2016 season and it looked like her bad fortune would continue in Indian Wells, as she quickly found herself trailing a set against Irina Falconi. However, Witthöft managed to escape another loss, making her way into round 2.

While first-round matches were going on, marquee players were out on the practice court, preparing for their start into the prestigious tournament in the Californian desert.

Afterwards, the top seeds were in for some fun and games at Indian Wells’ All-Access Hour which is always an entertaining affair for the players and press alike as the stars are being challenged with fun games to lighten the mood.

First-round play will continue tomorrow, including the comeback of Laura Robson, as the young Briton will once again try to successfully make it back to the WTA tour.
