World No.22 Sara Errani cruised to the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships title with a surprisingly easy victory over Barbora Strycova, who froze in the big final and greatly helped her opponent win the match by committing too many errors.
In the first set, Strycova hit just six winners to 21 unforced errors, while her opponent’s score was four to five, and that translated into the unwelcome bagel. Errani’s dominance in the first set is also evidenced in the 90% winning percentage on first serve.
The second set was slightly more competitive, but Strycova could never properly get into the groove. The Czech’s total of 43 unforced errors greatly helped the Italian clinch the Premier-level title and earn $465,480 in prize money. It was an unexpectedly bad performance by Strycova, who was lucky not to be double-bageled. Final score was 6-0 6-2.
This is the ninth WTA title of the 28-year-old Errani and her biggest one.
