Switzerland made the semifinals of the 2016 Fed Cup competition, getting past the German team in front of their home crowd in Leipzig.

Going into the second day of the tie, the teams were leveled at 1:1 since both countries managed to win a singles match on Saturday. Belinda Bencic’s win over Angelique Kerber set the Swiss team up for a win as Timea Bacszinszky had the chance to close the deal against Annika Beck in the second singles match on Sunday.

The young German exceeded all expectations though, withstanding the massive pressure of having to save her team in front of a large crowd, forcing an all-deciding doubles match in which Belinda Bencic and the reigning doubles #1 Martina Hingis managed to finalize the Swiss victory in a dominant fashion.
