Singapore Warms Up For WTA Finals – Gallery

The second edition of the WTA Finals in Singapore is just around the corner as the WTA’s Elite 8 have arrived in the Asian metropolis, preparing for next week’s big final event of the 2015 WTA season.

Led by top seed Simona Halep, the class of 2015 includes Maria Sharapova, Garbine Muguruza, Agnieszka Radwanska, Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber, Lucie Safarova and Flavia Pennetta. The Italian is the only reigning slam winner in the tournament, playing her final WTA event before her retirement.

Two days ahead of the tournament start, it’s all about the right preparation and the players were busy practicing on Friday. Among them was Maria Sharapova, the Russian tennis superstar is looking to make a successful comeback in Singapore, after having played no complete match ever since Wimbledon, due to injury.

While the elite players were preparing on the practice courts, some of the WTA’s promising youngsters competed in the WTA Rising Stars Invitational, a special event for four players that were chosen by popular vote.

In the evening, Singapore tennis fans had a chance to get close to their idols, as all players were on hand for the WTA Finals draw ceremony, held inside the Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands mall, giving fans the chance to see their favorite players in stunning outfits.

Tomorrow, the players will meet the media for an extensive All-Access Hour session before play at the 2015 WTA Finals in Singapore finally gets underway inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Sunday!

I wonder, did they choose their dresses themselves? Because while Kerber and Safarova look amazing, Sharapova looks like an old time school teacher, Radwanska looks cheap and vulgar and the rest of them just plain. If there is a stylist involved, the styling is not fair at all. If otherwise, there are obviously only two with taste (Kerber & Safarova).

Yes I was struck by the fact that most of the singles players looked pretty awful – especially Radwanska – what was she thinking? I Kerber and Muguruza are the only two that look half decent. Lucie looks ok but I think a short dress is better and it is a bit featureless. Were they supposed to wear black and white or is it just coincidence? It looks as if some of the doubles players might look ok – Andrea Hlavakova, Bethanie MS, Kristina M, Sania Mirza – but you can’t really see them properly.

@CLT: I agree, a short dress is more suitable for this occassion. On a second look, Muguruza’s dress could be OK but it is way too short for her. And yes, it is difficult to see the doubles players clothing. But Radwanska… 😀 Go figure.

Claire, CLT, if you follow WTB on Twitter you must have seen that I picked Kerber as best-dressed here. Also, I made a complete overview of singles players and several doubles in my article for the WTA: https://t.co/7VILQHK2fQ

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that they mostly wore black. Kerber looked really decent, I think Safarova’s dress had too much material, Radwanska’s dress is a bit tacky but I have to say that she wore it well, Sharapova was OK, Halep was good, …

Wow, didn’t realize the younger Chan sister was so tall! Nice peach full length dress, when everyone else seemed to go with the short skirt.
